Bama's D this year is #23, that is a drop off without Golding

I think the perception for Bama fans is that the D is better but it really isn't.

And the reason for that is because you started 2022 thinking you were a shoe in for the Natty and you ended up being anything but

This year your expectations were lowered and now you are playing from the bottom up

But here's the difference: look at games like Tennessee: we actually adjusted and shut them out in the second half opposed to last year where they just scored at will the entire game.

And consider Kentucky, we held their RB to 18 yards rushing until he capitalized on a bust in garbage time and ran all the way down field. Golding would've given up 18 yards rushing on their first offensive series.

Even against Texas, we held their offense to 13 points up until the 4th quarter when our defense was gassed from being on the field all game long... I know Golding held Texas to 19 the prior year but keep in mind Ewers went down in the first quarter and there's no possible way Alabama wins that game with Ewers starting.

You don’t watch football.

Our rankings are worse this year because we’ve played the following offenses:

#1
#12
#14
#17

That’s 3/4 offenses in the SEC ranked in the Top 25, plus Texas.

Our defense is absolutely better this year. Specifically, our LB play is lightyears better.

He needs to hire Jeremy Pruitt next year if Saban doesn’t hire him and he would probably win the NC!!

Lol Bama’s defense is much better this season. The statistics aren’t telling the whole story.

Just a phenomenal argument for you to try and make in this thread.

Golding is very good at his job. You guys just never grasped that football is different than it was ten years ago. We are happy to have him.

Ask any Bama fan if they’d rather have last years defense back.

0 would say yes

0 have asked that question as it's entirely irrelevant.

Bama's 2023 defense has frick-all to do with the difference between the Ole Miss 2022 and 2023 defenses.

So going back to it.....you unintentionally answered your own question.

I’m smooth brained because I pointed out that a comparison between our defensive rankings last year and this year means not frickshit?

Last year we played one offense ranked in the Top 20 all season long. That was Tennessee, and they literally broke records against us.

Are you saying Ole Miss has the same talent on defense as Alabama?

Remember when Pete got a DUI after trying to drink away Stetson MF'n Bennett?...That was awesome.

Not gonna bag on Pete. Especially if Ole Miss folks are happy with things - which overall seem to be better.

Pete's issue at Alabama was big games against good offenses. But he was very good against most bad offenses. He seems to be doing the same thing at Ole Miss, which is a big step up for them.

Seems like it's been a win win overall for both.

Our stats vs Top 25 offenses this year are drastically better - roughly 10 ppg and 50-75 YPG. And that was the issue Pete had here.

Also, were #19 in YPP and #17 in PPG. And against a very good schedule of offenses.

Yep, and with Chattanooga and Auburn coming up you can bet it will be around 10th or better before the SEC title game.

Now let's play this great little game called "apply the same argument to the subject of the OP.

Alabama vs FEI Top 25 Offenses

2022 (6) (Avg 14.0 rank)
- 28.8 PPG
- 414 YPG

2023 (5) (Avg 14.8 rank)
- 22.4 PPG
- 389 YPG

6.4 PPG less, 25 YPG less

Alabama vs FEI Top 16 Offenses

2022 (4) (Avg 10.7 rank)
- 31.8 PPG
- 427 YPG

2023 (3) (Avg 10.3 rank)
- 19.3 PPG
- 362 YPG

12 PPG less, 60 YPG less

So, anyone arguing this defense is "worse" than last year is just looking at some total stat number.
