How will the Gator fanbase react to a highly likely 5 game slide to end the 2023 season in year two of Sunbelt Billy’s tenure? What’s the mood ?

Can't keep firing coaches and expecting stuff to change.

Wouldn't be a great look - but that is UF football right now.

5-7 and 4-8 are pretty much locks at this point.

Roster kinda sucks though. Few good pieces to build around

Losing sucks but have to see if this recruiting class comes to fruition and if coaching improves. Team doesn’t quit and plays hard. Mertz has exceeded expectations. Cannot keep firing coaches and expect things to immediately improve.

Probably would’ve been a one score game late if Billy doesn’t fumble over himself with the playcalling.

I know your 24 class is awesome but how much can it really improve in 24 with that schedule . Is the fanbase ready to give him until 25 or so ?

If Billy keeps the 24 classes together the defense finally will be full of freshman and sophomore caliber SEC talent with the final Mullen players gone.

If he goes 7-5 next year that will get him a lot of good will with the fanbase.

Probably not much, but nine true freshmen are getting extensive playing time. It’s a rebuild that takes time, but will be for naught if Napier doesn’t bring in an OC. Just my thoughts.

I get the feeling Billy Napier is going to be the guy before the guy. He’ll never win big but corrects the roster situation such that the next guy just has to trim around the edges to make a winner.

Mike Shula was sort of that guy for Alabama. Saban still needed a major talent infusion to get that year 3 title but there were many Shula era recruits that ended up being critical to that team’s success.

You may very well be correct - I just don't see an "obvious" big name out there.

And the big thing is that if Napier really is “the guy before the guy” then Florida needs to give him 4-5 years first.

There seems to be a problem of convincing recruits that they will be coached properly.

When Billy came in he preached analytics and facility improvements but isn't fielding a team with a great deal of technique discipline.

I wish we had this

Not against the portal to plug holes but the I prefer a roster full of young talent that can be developed.

Right it's worth noting it's an insanely young team. I wasn't sure we'd have more than one viable receiver when the season started, now we've got some good FR and SO talent out there.

Offense should be really good next year, the question is whether the defense can grow up too.

We'll be better next year. An 8-4 type season would feel like progress

The best players and most fundamentally sound players UF has are players Billy has brought in.

That is the encouraging part. The staff part and coaching (special teams...) is definitely a problem.

I'm sensing calm. Good for you guys. I respect the long view and realism. This coaching shite is basically a crap shoot/ mystery.

Billy deserves another year, but if there's not significant improvement in play and coaching then he needs to go.
