Maybe I'm out of touch, but I never heard of an exhibition game between two ranked teams before. Thought exhibition games were always against a nearby D3 or NAIA school.

Probably some positives for both teams after this game that doesn't count.

It was a charity event to raise money for the Maui fires.

Charity event and MSU did a closed practice with Vols in Knoxville last year. Barnes and Izzo are pretty tight too

Ncaa mandates when two d1 schools play in exhibition they must make it a charity game.

The game was a fun event for both schools. Both coaches just kinda let them play and see what guys did under the lights. And in interviews both said a few things they would have done differently if it mattered.

It was one of the best post game interviews I’ve seen Barnes do. Laughing and cutting up about Dalton Knecht and this dunk
It’s pronounced like Connect

Don’t worry, the entire country is about to know who he is here soon enough.

Vols play the best even when it's not regular season.

LSU has scrimmaged Houston in recent years. Nothing open to the public, but rumors from those in attendance they were real battles. Better to get some real competition in a controlled environment early on to let you know where you're at coming into the season.

If you've got some issues that need to be addressed you don't want to discover them once conference play starts. Nothing wrong with a few dunkapalooza games against Southeast Sarasota Technical College, but a steady diet of easy wins in the preseason and early season can lead to some spectacular collapses once things get serious.
