Yep. I am fairly confident that a big reason why Oats targets mostly older mid-major guys like Bruner, Gurley, Welch, Nelson, Estrada, Wrightsell, Mallette, and Youngblood is that they have already gotten their chance to be the man and get all the personal accolades, and now they just want to win.

Maturity and chemistry can overcome a talent differential in college basketball. Though the chemistry part is harder to achieve, since it's impossible to keep a recruit for more than a year or two. That's the only real disheartening thing to see with the Griffen and Walters. You just can't develop a player anymore. We've all heard that, and even knew it. But to finally see it, with guys you hoped to see reach their college potential, is a bitch.

But you can't get upset about it. Because the portal giveth...

Based on the article about the analytics guy and his methods, I doubt that is a factor - but it probably should be.
