I know you've all been waiting for this. I couldn't watch the game due to a wedding. But I DVR'd it and watched it after already knowing the outcome, and without reading much here, so I wasn't emotionally charged as I normally would be watching a game and didn't have any real preconceived notions of anything to criticize or praise.

1: I saw a 40-3 UGA win but we turned the ball over 3 times making it 27-20. Let me explain my math. We scored 27 in real life. In pretend land, we score those same 27 but instead of 3 turnovers, we score an additional 7 and lets be conservative and say 2 field goals. 27 + 13 = 40. And take away the points AU scored on those turnovers = final score 3. Total game changers, especially in a new landscape where teams get fewer drives per game because of clock rules. Last year's Mizzou and Kent State games were what they were because of turnovers. This year's SC and now AU games were close because of the turnovers. Bobo isn't the one turning the ball over, just like it wasn't Monken turning the ball over last year in those games.

2: I regret talking shite about Milton. We sure as hell could use him healthy right now. But, he's not healthy. Shocked face. The running back room is Daijun Edwards, a converted WR, and a white walkon. If we had just one quality RB healthy to share carries with Edwards, that would solve so many problems and nobody would be talking shite about Bobo.

Misc- some bad angles taken by linebackers here and there to give up some big plays, it happens, they will learn from it. So glad to have Bullard back. Beck had several opportunities to haul arse out of the pocket and pick up good yards, and didn't or made the decision too late. But overall I think he played well. I mean he did sort of win us the game near the end.

Disagree ish with your second point. Having more healthy experienced backs would certainly not hurt, but they can’t run through holes that aren’t there. This OL is pretty poor run blocking. They’re somehow much better in pass pro which hasn’t been world changing but still better than run push. That’s why I mentioned in the UAB game thread that any 3rd or 4th and 2 or longer should only be pass plays because we aren’t good enough getting push.

Getting our shite pushed in by the zone reads yesterday will be good for us in the long run I think. Off hand I can't remember a post-2016 Kirby defense looking that lost and taking so many bad angles as often.

But then again Hugh Freeze is a really really smart offensive playcaller and they didn't show hardly any of that shite against Texas A&M.

I cant type near as much as I want to without being on a computer, but after thinking about things since yesterday the biggest thing I keep coming back to is auburn scored 14 points that we directly handed to them in our own territory. Take away those self inflicted miscues and they score in the single digits.

We looked crappy at times and it was much closer than I would have liked but we came through in crunch time when we needed to

Biggest concern I have moving forward is the trenches on both side of ball but more specifically that we can be run on defensively. It’s not just the DL - feels like we have had some mediocre ILB play at times.

We have the horses on offense to be very scary passing the ball - I still
have hope we put it together by year end and start hanging 40-50 on everyone we play.

I have been encouraged by Beck - he’s a gamer and has made several clutch throws. He’s missed some big plays too but I think he is one of the top 5 QBs in the country.

We had Nakobe and Cine to fire up the defense the last three seasons but seem to have no one there to provide leadership now.

I don't think people really grasped how big the dropoff would be from Jalen Carter, nakobe, j Davis, Wyatt, Ringo, quay, travon, Adam Anderson, and Nolan to their replacements we have now.

My issue with Milton is his lack of vision. It’s been an issue with him since he’s been at UGA. He has all the makings of an All-American RB except he has trouble seeing when a hole opens sometimes.

My issue with Bobo is that we didn’t see an outside run until halfway through the 3rd quarter yesterday. Our guard play has been underwhelming this year and we’re a little beat up on the OL, so we’ve struggled to run the ball between the tackles often… which is where the vast majority of our called runs have gone. Beck also eventually has to start pulling the ball on zone reads. Everyone and their daddy knows that the ball is going with the running back and Beck is always running free when he carries out his fake. There has to be a threat of a QB pulling the ball for that play to really be effective. Mostly, Bobo has done a great job especially calling passing plays, but I’d like to see us try to run more misdirection and/or toss sweeps.

Our linebacker play was up and down yesterday. Those guys made some great plays and then followed it up by taking some awful angles or being totally out of position on the next play. We’ve been pretty solid against the run inside the box this year, but we go to shite when it’s outside the box. We cannot set an edge to save our lives right now and quick passes to the motion man have killed us all season long. UGA has been known for being tough as nails on the perimeter under Kirby, but this defense has been a liability out there this year. Hopefully the players figure it out soon.

Yes, I meant to mention the horrible edge containment in my Misc notes, that's absolutely a problem. When your job is contain, don't try to be a hero, contain and force the carrier inside where there's other skull thumpers.

Running QBs are giving us a problem. OCs from other schools are noticing. Auburn's QB only had 70 something passing yards, but nearly 100 rushing yards. We're going to have to tighten up containment and put a stop to that. It's gashing us on some plays.

We're getting a pretty good push with Fairchild and Morris on the Oline, the one I raise an eyebrow at is Truss. Sometimes he looks good, sometimes, he looks lost. Is that just me? I'm not the expert some of you guys are.

After a rewatch of the game, I noticed that on almost every big run by their quarterbacks, there were egregious holds by their offensive line. Some were so bad that look like horse color tackles on our defensive lineman.

At the end of the day, we lost a ton of elite talent to the NFL the last two years and are dealing with injuries. Yet, we have guys coming along and beginning to fill some of those gaps. Not all of them and many not at the same level, but filling them. Most people would have called this a rebuilding year, but our coach won’t. We are 5-0 and have beaten 2 rivals. Maybe we win all our games. There is a good chance we don’t. Being manic or pissy about it is a sign of low IQ and just not really grasping one’s place in all of this. We could be 3-2 right now, but our coach does a fricking great job in motivating and adjusting. We are fortunate as frick right now. Enjoy the ride and onward.

I don't think we can call 2023 a rebuild because of all of the a+ talent that we return.

You are correct that we have put a ton of people into the league. And their "replacements" are often not the same caliber.
That just means that we have to accomplish the same things differently.
And it shouldn't be a shock when it looks differently.

Freeze outcoached us in several aspects.
But they were significantly outclassed.
If it wasn't for the turnovers, the game wasn't close (even with freeze having a perfect gameplan).

Agreed. More talent at pass catcher than any other Kirby team probably.

O line is supposed to be a strength, due to experience and talent. Secondary maybe best of Kirby era. Talent and depth wise.

Front seven and DL specifically has lost a lot. Haven't seen many of the young guys step up there. That's obviously the key to our defense so that's a big regression, but I agree I don't think this should be a rebuild year.

Next year most likely will be with that schedule and the folks we will be losing.
