The Oklahoma Theory

For clarity , this isn't about Oklahoma. It's in reference to them as they fit this mold better than anyone right now.
So to explain : Say you have an average team with a below average schedule (Oklahoma).
They spend all year beating the shite out of this schedule. And they're a pretty big brand. So they're going to get hype. It's inevitable.
Now say you have a damn good Florida team. Again, just an example. Not talking about Florida directly.
But this damn good Florida team starts week 1 against a high quality opponent. And Florida loses this game.
Now, Oklahoma has had no issues. The dam isn't breaking, they're slaughtering everyone they play. If there are leaks in the boat, they are undetected.
The Florida team has now identified every single leak. And they're even better than damn good. They win the rest of their games against more quality opponents.
Both this Oklahoma team and this Florida team make the playoffs and are matched in the first round.
Who wins?
This is a COMMON problem.
And while many point fingers at Georgia, the fact of the matter is that Georgia IS being tested. The SEC, despite looking bad this year, is still top to bottom the deepest conference in terms of talent. That didn't just change.
Every week in the SEC is a battle. The reason this conference continues to win natties is because any team elite enough to get through it unscathed isn't fricking losing in a playoff.
LSU in 2019 absolutely annihilated an Oklahoma team who once again handled an inferior schedule. Their best win was Baylor twice.
That LSU team matched up with Alabama, Georgia, and the rest of the west. Auburn played that team to the wire, not because they were good, but because the SEC beats you down and prepares you.
That's my take on why the SEC dominates national championships.

Congrats on finally figuring out college football. The rest of us have known this instictively for decades.

Doesn't compute. A&M fans think beating the shite out of Monroe means they're back in the hunt for some reason.

Oklahoma is about to become the new Nebraska, they aren’t really a good test case for anything.

You're not wrong and the same would apply to OSU and Michigan.
But then again, all three of those teams would booty bang Bama this year.

This board has told me that the SEC is shite. That our team can play an 8 game SEC schedule, play in the SECC and that it would be “the easiest path ever to the playoffs”.
All you other SEC teams suck. frick y’all.

You football team will take on 12 different personalities over 12 weeks. Some losses and wins will be inexplicable. (Paraphrased)

the ohio state model
Greatest team ever, spanked by Gators
Greatest team ever, Spanked by Tigers
It is why I have no confidence in Michigan if they get to the playoff.

Dream on. Not with the transfer portal. Oklahoma and Texas will continue to be a threat and contend.

Why is this a theory? It's precisely what happened in 2008.
