If it ain't UGA I am doing the same thing but with streaming it takes too long to switch channels so I do not do it as much as I did with cable...

I don't think it's greed. ESPN is on the ropes, and is on the hook to pay the SEC gozillions of dollars. They gotta make our money for next year!!!!
Disney, in general, is struggling like hell. They're trying to offload ABC to Nexstar.

I suspect people will start to watch less as bad as it is. I know this season I have watched UGA and thats about it...I can't sit in front of a TV showing nothing but ads all day...I will lose my mind, what little there is left. I have tried to watch several games, can't do it, can barely get through the UGA games so far...

I've gone to every UK game so far this year and the TV timeouts are noticeable and awful.

Does anyone have the numbers for average broadcast time this year compared to last year? I know week zero and week one it was virtually the same as last year but with fewer plays.

If that's the case, all games will be ppv or not broadcast at all. That would be awesome right?

The powers that be really blew this rule change by allowing the clock to run after 1st downs (except for the last two minutes of each half). Brilliant move, shrink the game ... now less football, more commercials ... terrible decision. It's really makes watching the game less enjoyable.

What’s worse to me is the number of commercials from pharmaceutical manufacturers. It is endless.

I've always detested commercials. They take up too much time & 99.999% of the time are for stuff you nor anybody you know want/need.
I think the avg. 60 min. (scheduled) tv program has 20+ mins. of commercials. Guess that's why British tv schedules in 40 min. increments.

Why can't they come up with a product that "zaps" commercials like those advertised for spam callers/telemarketers?
Wasn't TIVO supposed to do that?

I had to be in the hospital this weekend. On the hospitals crappy cable system there were like six channels showing college football. Punching through from game to game there were times when all six games were on commercial break at the same time. Happened at least three or four times.
And it is amazing how often there is a game stoppage during the games as you look from game to game even if it isn't a commercial. You are watching a game. Play stops because of injury. Switch to the next game? "Review for targeting"? Switch to the next game? Referees conferencing about a call in the middle of the field.
Its almost surprising when you get to a game where they are actually playing football.

I swear the networks coordinate on this.

I've watched a few games this year on Hulu. Started 30 minutes after kickoff, then FF through commercials. I usually catch up part way through the fourth quarter.

Attempts have been made. It's pretty hard to do apparently. Really the only thing it matters on is sports. There are plenty of download options to watch anything else completely uninterrupted, albeit not live.

They actually shorten the games but not stopping the click after every first down but left the TV slots exactly the same.
So they filled the time with additional commercials.
We have been had

Hate to tell you, but that happens with regular tv also...where I've flipped to 5+ channels simultaneously airing commercials.

A commercial is a commercial is a commercial.
If I wanted (to know about) said product, I would research/buy said product.
I don't care that a car dealership just got new inventory; I'm not experiencing any health issues to buy your medicine; I don't watch that tv program, so who cares what the next episode's about; I just ate, therefore I'm not interested in your food items; I don't cheer for ____ team(s), so why do I want to know about their upcoming schedule; etc..
It's like when I used to live in an apt. complex, & beside the mailboxes was a garbage can that practically EVERYBODY dumped those weekly fliers we would get.

This is the reason the networks are willing to pay so much for live sports...production costs almost nothing after paying for the rights but it is the only TV programming left which is conducive to people watching with commercials. The same is true for cable news...production costs are nearly nothing compared to a drama or sitcom and it is somewhat live so commercials are a reality.

I would prefer PPV with the caveat that the game was ONLY ppv. If it is PPV and ad free and being broadcast for free with ads somewhere the timeouts will be the same...UGS first game of the season was on ESPN+ and 2.5 of 4 hours my TV had nothing but the ESPN+ logo on it...because they did not air the commercials but the game was in a TV timeout. For nearly 4 hours had you walked in that room you'd thought the TV was not being used and someone had forgotten to turn it off.
