Per Graham Coffey, starting with the 2017 draft (Kirby's first year putting guys into the league), 25% of 3 stars at UGA are getting drafted.
Not just making a team (udfa)... 25% getting drafted.

We see guys every year make big plays for UGA (Ladd McConkey, Dan Jackson, Javon Bullard). And this season we are seeing Cash Jones, Mekhi Mews, and Dillon Bell show out.

The talent evaluation and level of coaching at UGA is elite.

Did he happen to note the rate at which the rest of CFB is putting 3 Stars into the league?

This would be pretty impressive if it's true.

I think all of us have 3 stars that contribute big plays.

The real secret is Kirby overpaid recruits to kick start things. Great strategy that is paying dividends.

It doesn't sound like it could be true until you consider that the majority of our recruits are 4 and 5 stars.
We may put in a couple more 3 stars into the draft than other very good teams, but our total sum of 3 star recruits could be measurably less.
That is the only explanation in my head.

The thought process is also that if UGA wants you, there is a good chance that the services have undervalued you (should probably be a low 4 at minimum).

Better than 6 figures for a one-and-done Heisman, right?

That's a strong stat and everything, but it'd be interesting to know if that's counting all of the 3 stars who eventually transferred out or got processed, or is just the 3 stars that stuck.

I can link to the podcast (not that the secrant is interested in listening to the 100 Sanford podcast).

I'm not on The X. But I assume that this is something that Graham has or will tweet out.

I don't know his entire data set other than he is counting recruits under Kirby and NFL drafts starting in 2017 (the data set could skew high with Richt 3 stars getting drafted but not counting in the recruiting numbers. But obviously we are expecting draft results for the Ladd McConkeys and Javon Bullards too who haven't had their nfl opportunity yet)

It’s absolutely true.
I’m sure you have 3 stars. Probably a lot of them. A&M can’t be picky. 4s and 5s have to be bribed to sign with the Aggies. And before you say this Isnt true I’ve seen the video of one of your coaches talking to a bunch of recruits, pointing up to the luxury areas of your stadium and telling them that the people who sit up there are gonna be paying you a lot of money.
Your 3 stars aren’t being coached up like UGAs and they aren’t being drafted like Georgias are either.
Jimbo sure pulled a fast one on y’all. Gonna cost a pile of money to kick him to the curb

Interesting.

I absolutely think that Kirby and staff's evaluations are off the charts.

Kirby can recognize talent and coach it up better than any coach I’ve seen. He puts non ranked players and 3s in the NFL almost every year.

Based on?

I only found one "study" that looked at this and it wasn't quite the same timeframe.

quote:

Using the 247Sports Composite Rating, we tallied the total three-, four- and five-star prospects signed at each of the 65 Power 5 programs from 2009 through 2019 and how many of each star rating were drafted from 2012 through 2022 in the seven-round event that features more than 250 picks each year. Then we tallied the percentages for each school.

There is little difference. Both have hugely overpaid coaches and little to show for it

If true, that's wildly impressive. Good on Kirb and crew.

of course. We have a lot of them though, which stands out even more considering the myriad high 4* and 5* elite players we also have. Going back to 2018 here are some notable 3* we've had:

Chris Smith, Jordan Davis, Kenny McIntosh, Stetson Bennett, Diajun Edwards, Ladd Mcconkey, AD Mitchell, Chaz Chambliss, Javon Bullard, Dillon Bell

Every one of those guys with the possibile exception of Bell (who is from the '22 class but a current starter) has made a massive impace in one form or another on national championship winning teams. All of them have started and some for multiple years.
