Nice to see Quay Walker pick-six Justin Fields today. Even though ...

I'm a Bears fan. Never understood the Justin Fields hype. The Bears sold their soul for that guy and he's been nothing but horrible.
Kirby did the right thing with the Fromm - Fields nonsense.

Jalen carter, Devonte Wyatt, Travon Walker and Jordan Davis all had a sack yesterday
Also want to add that in a post game presser video, travon mentioned he has to keep chopping wood. Kirby instilled a great mentality into these guys

You know Kirby also started D'Wan Mathis over Stetson Bennett, righ? Was that the right decision?
Kirby can know more about football than any of us and still make a mistake.

I understand that, I just don't think keeping Fromm as the starter was one of them. Fromm came closer to winning a national title than Fields did and Fields has been an absolute disaster as a pro (so far).

Fromm left after 3 years.

DWan started... but UGA took 2 (3 counting PWO) QBs that prior offseason. It's safe to say that D'wan was not the plan in the spring.
Thank God that Kirby took Stetson back when Fields left (and Plumlee decommitted).

Well Fromm wasn't even in college by the time Fields made the NCG. And OSU went through that daring gauntlet of 6 COVID games to reach the title game, where they promptly got waxed by Alabama worse than Stetson and the Dawgs did a few months prior.
But sure, Fields was fantastic in the Mickey Mouse OSU offense. Who was the last good NFL QB from OSU?

At the time, yeah. Until we saw that it was not the best decisiosn and a change was made after one half.

Absolutely zero mistakes were made by our staff in regards to fromm/fields.
Fromm came in off the bench as a TFr in 2017 without warning and had to to go ND for one of the biggest regular season games in UGA history in his first start. HE played very well as a freshman and nobody with a functioning brain would have benched him heading into 2018. Fields as a TFr got some spot duty as you'd expect from a TFr (no different than tua in 2017 who played here and there throughotu the season to get reps) but it wasn't what he personally wanted. So instead of stickign around and maybe potentially having a puncher's chance at starting heading into 2019 wiht a year of experience under his belt, he took his ball and went home. He bitched and maoned PUBLICLY that he wasn't being used like he thought, and he declared before our season was even over that he was transferring. He did basically the exact polar opposite as eason/daniels.
There's a ahndful of things I blame kirby for but the fields situation isn't even close to one of them.

From what I've read, fromm's parents were not team first during the 2018 season.
Assurances were being demanded.
I'm disappointed in Fields attitude (post game against SCar). Bad attitudes and practice effort do not get rewarded at UGA. But the squeaky wheel got the grease.
I'm more than happy with the Fields for Stetson trade.

In my opinion it is still up in the air it Fields will be a good NFL quarterback. I'll shoot him some bail because his offensive line is straight hot garbage. I mean it's probably just as bad as the Giants offensive line.
Now in regards to people saying Kirby should have played Fields over Fromm are silly. Had Kirby started Fields over Fromm, that would have been the third true freshman to start in 3 years. That is not a good thing and what does it say about your development of Quarterbacks? I just don't see how someone can bring themselves to say bench a guy who was a busted play away from winning you the national championship. Fields was a whiny arse bitch in college, phuck'em.

I think the issue is much bigger than even that. If that had happened it would basically signal to every recruit in america "it doesn't really matter if you've proven yourself in games on the field, if there's a 5* behind you with more "potential" he's starting instead of you". We would have a team full of Bear Alexanders which wouldn't be good for anyone.
Woudl we have been a better team with fields starting? Big picture all things considered, yeah. Probably not in 2018 since Fromm was really damn good that year, but in 2019 and 2020 almost definitely. But you've got to keep yoru house in order. I love that after half our team sleepwalked in the sugar bowl against texas kirby changed his philosophy by basically saying he didn't want anyone that didn't want to be there. It's poetic in a way that 12 months later we were right back in the very same bowl game but this time with a hungry team that wanted to prove themslves instead of a team just going through the motions, and we whooped arse that time. I don't think that's a coincidence.

A star high schooler doesn't see themselves as the less talented, older player in that situation. They see themselves as the more talented young guy. They wouldn't look at how Jake was playing at the time and think That's me when I struggle. It'll be I'm better than that guy, but I won't get a shot.
Didn't help that Trevor took over at Clemson when Kelley Bryant struggled less than Jake had early that season.
This isn't a hypothetical, BTW. Caleb Williams was a Georgia commit at the time. He decommitted during the offensive issues that season when Fromm was playing poorly and Fields didn't supplant him.
Is not a simple cause and effect, I know. But it's pretty well known that the QB situation that year did contribute to sending that #1 WR out of Cedar Grove to Oklahoma after a decommitment from UGA, just like Caleb.
Think Lincoln Riley didn't use it to win those players?

Every college roster filled with guys who were the stat on every team they ever played on. One of the maturity threshold’s you have to cross when you arrive at college is to realize this and accept that your path won’t be the same as high school. Coaches also have to manage this on a large scale. When the rest of the players see a coach making an exception for an ego, it can cause bigger issues with the team.
It certainly appeared that Fields and his handlers had him on a 3 year path to the NFL, so sitting behind an incumbent was not in his plans. The problem is Kirby needed to win games that year and had the rest of the team to manage. It’s possible he over promised Fields, but that’s normal in recruiting. I think Smart learned a lot from that experience. We won 2 natties soon after, so he may have sacrificed his queen, but won the chess match. Twice.

Per the other site, the Fromm team was making demands mid-season on the coaching staff.
It sounds like Kirby catered to one side over the other (which he regrets).
Fields may have dug a hole with his attitude early in the season, but that attitude got to be more warranted mid-season when it wasn't so level of a playing field.
It was a poor situation which got worse because of all 3 sides.
I think Kirby learned a ton through it all.

Was it demands or displeasure that the 2nd string Freshmen was affecting the rhythm of the offense and his game by taking game time and practice time away by scripting series with the first team that catered to a different QB? This was all done to keep the kid from leaving. Seems like he had a point.

The way it read, they were demands. Fromm was threatening to leave as a junior and requiring mid-season snaps to keep a future promise (see LSU/Florida snap counts).
There was a line in the sand and the staff caved.
Fields had already soured, so maybe they took the lesser of 2 evils. But it stopped being about best player plays. Or about what we need to do to gameplan our best chances to win.
All of this is message board heresay. But the source is the other site which has insight not often shared but seems extremely reliable

It was presented as another example of Kirby learning hard lessons.
Lessons that would shape how we operate for recruits and NIL during our last 3 year run.
