A terrifying thought: Milroe really is the best option we have at QB

Is it possible Buchner, Ty and the freshman are worse and that’s why Saban stuck with Milroe? It’s not like he’s never pulled a starting QB for a true freshman in a huge game. This one has me bamboozled.

I mean I don’t think the staff planned on losing tonight, so I would imagine he was the best option unless of course the conspiracies are true and all of sports is fantasy land where narratives are literally created by the coaches and they intentionally lose just to make a Cinderella story hero out of backup player.

No, it’s not. Even if they read defenses at a 3rd grade level, that’s better than what Milroe provides. This is a classic case of Saban giving too much deference to a player who’s been in the program longest. There’s a reason Rees went and got Buchner and it’s not because he thought Milroe was the second coming.

There’s not a shot in the world those those three (excluding Holstein) can’t throw it better than Milroe, at least one of them

I think we’re falling into the Hurts pit trap of “coaches guy, dual threat”. Hurts should’ve been benched well before Tua came in that second half, and this game is our rude awakening for Milroe

Buchner was better at the scrimmage. I’d like to see him get a shot. I mean it can’t get any worse I suppose.

If we have a better option we need to see him on the first offensive play of next week's game.

The way we started running the ball, an average QB could have eaten them alive with play action. Hell, if you take away the 10 points Milroe gave them, it’s a tie game even with poor QB play.

I agree. We put them on skates and never threw to match even average. I know Buchner could have hit the intermediate stuff. Or at least enough of it.

I know it was only MTSU, but Buchner made some fast reads.

#5 on the left sideline wide open for a TD. Intermediate throw length but still a short throw. Threw behind him. #5 caught it falling down to get to it.

#2 on a wheel right sideline wide open for a TD. True intermdiate distance throw. Over throw.

6 or 8 times #3 / #11 / #84 wide open down field for a long gain or TD. They should have been the #2 or #3 in progression. QB never got past the 1st option.

Tyler and Ty are both better at intermediate throws and progression. Tyler, not the best option for deep throws. Ty is good at deep throws. Both are better at progression (Tyler is better than Ty at this point).

Tylers biggest issues will be deep arm strength and low release point. OC should be able to work around those.

Ty, I relly have no idea what knocked him down the chart but I am not sure he can recover from whatever that was...this year.

His OC at ND being his OC at Bama is probably the reason.

Also, that wheel route with McClellan hurt.

No. Some of you guys need to watch the postgame presser. Saban said the only reason he didn't pull Milroe tonight is because he put that drive together that put us ahead of Texas, and he believed that would give Milroe the confidence he needed.

In other words, Milroe played just well enough to not get benched. Pretty terrible luck. Ironically, if Texas had been a little bit better tonight, we win with Buchner at QB.

Dude…let it go, this team isn’t going to do well this year, and by well I mean CFB Playoffs.

Rees and Steele are second tier coordinators. It doesn’t matter who is playing QB. Nothing really worked well tonight, and even when it did we didn’t stay with it. Season is over. I mean, sure we can go to some bowl game in Florida, but who cares this team isn’t winning the SEC west.

I disagree. I loved what I saw from this team tonight. Milroe just had a minus 10 million effect on our team. He ruined everything.
We had so much energy going into this game. The stadium was hyped, and he throws a fricking pick on the opening drive of the game.

Milroe is a giant brain tumor on a great team that is a national title contender. You all will see

Daboll wanted him benched mid season and was vetoed.

Milroe didn’t pick the starting QB.

Correct, Saban made the call, and Saban will make the same call next week. Maybe Milroe gets benched against Ole Miss when we go into the half down by 10 or more, but it’s just a maybe. I’m guessing it will take a couple more loses before we see a different starter at QB.

Correct. It's Saban's fault. His poor QB decisions have cost us before. It's not a sign that he's done or anything like that.

He clearly struggles with picking a QB.

Whatever. Milroe is out. We have the whole season in front of us and we're 0-0 in the SEC which is what matters.

I think the frustrating thing to me is people claiming he didn’t have time. By no means do I think the line protected well, but if you watch the second pick he had plenty of time. He stared down burton and hit the DB in the chest with the ball. It was literally like he meant to throw it to him. I mean I know he didn’t, but if you had no idea of how football worked, you’d be convinced otherwise.
