Coach loved Auburn more than anybody.

Crooked Oaks Farm donated to AU

quote:

I could not be more confident that the land will be valued and held to the standard Pat and I always wanted to see,” McDonald said. “I feel his spirit in this, and I know what’s happening is something he would be proud of.”

Pat Dye Jr. added, “given everything that Auburn has done for dad and our family, he would be thrilled to know that Auburn will be great stewards of his beloved farm, hopefully for many generations.”

I cleaned quail out there for extra cash a couple times during college. It’s nice out there!

Coach Dye was a great coach and a great person. He was a true Auburn man who was always ready to help friends, family, players, and a host of charities. He will be remembered fondly by all of us who were blessed to know him.

He got the game moved out of Birmingham.

Old folks know how hard that was and appreciate what he did.

He singlehandedly brought Auburn out from under the shadow of that cesspool in Tuscaloosa.
From all accounts, he liked to have a drink or two...or three, but he was a good man who appreciated hard work and character. I can relate to that.

Pat Dye is the greatest ever. I would not trade him for any coach in history.

He was the most "Auburn Man" who has ever lived IMO. I do not believe any individual has ever done more for Auburn or loved AU more.

I met Dye 3 times. Once at his football camp. I still vividly remember how he looked at me when we shook hands for a picture on the field, a picture that is in a frame at my parents house. I remember so well because it made such an impression as I cannot think of anyone who has ever looked at me like Dye did and I am being 100% dead serious. It was like he was looking through and inside me, taking my measure and sizing me up.

In the framed picture he has a big smile on his face. I swear to God I do not remember him smiling. I just remember him looking me in the eye and feeling like he was taking my measure as a 16 year old.

AU football was lying comatose in bed on life support when Coach got here.

And he built a national power beginning with almost nothing.

God bless’im.
