Well that area is not grass its a flowerbed. It is so bare there because every time it rains my backyard becomes the Ocoee river and washes away all the pine straw or anything we put in the flower bed. The reason is I am the last house in our neighborhood and its slightly downhill to my house so the half the neighborhood water ends up in my backyard. This year we finally gave up trying and are about to have someone put in french drains hence the flower beds look horrible. You can actually see where the river flows...If anyone has any suggestions to help solve this issue I am all ears...

As you can see in this picture.
The spotty grass at the bottom of the picture is because the aforementioned French Bulldog is to lazy to walk the yard to pee and as soon as she touches the grass (That area) pees. Worst dog I have ever owned.

Man, I wish you’d have posted this before you put in the drains. We have the same issue with our house as our back yard collects water from ours and lots on both sides. Our lot slopes pretty hard from front to back. Gave us a walk out basement but erosion is always a problem.

French drains probably work for saturated ground but do nothing for water moving on the surface. We’ve had them put in and moving water has eroded and expose the drains underneath.

The only solution I’ve found is ditches and berms to direct it to where you want it to go.

Build a dam and stock with bluegill. Don't try to control nature, work with nature.

Havent put them in just got a quote. Building maybe a trench that goes around my yard may work. The fence isnt my propertly line we just fence in that area it actually goes pretty far into the trees. So you think maybe a different approach?

I had some heavy water issues coming off neighbor and culdesac. Used to wash my beds out. Bad flood years ago washed a 6” trench.

I ended up just doing some larger pond stone walking paths with large pvc buried in them with silt fabric on them. In a couple heavy spots I did a small French drain. The path had large stack stones around it to essentially hold the water in between and keep it out of yard.

Key is the give it a path of least resistance and not work against it.

I would NOT spend money on French drains for moving surface water. They work for saturation/ponding but not moving water.

You need to put in small trenches down your lines to move the water to the back corners…given t you’re not redirecting onto your neighbors lot. They don’t need to be huge either…just enough to redirect the flow. I wouldn’t fill them in with rock or anything either because sediment will fill the gaps and essentially fill them back up.

Or you can add dirt and create the same effect with small berms.

Am I allowed to splice in interesting 2023 college football factoids that I find as I thumb through my Lindy’s preview magazine today?

I’ll take that as a ‘no’. Would probably interrupt the on-topic drainage discussion

Will move to the eternal file

Thanks for the advice. Realdawg I may try exactly that. I am the same I am in a cul-de-sac at the end of the neighborhood and I feel everything drains into and out my backyard. You could literally tube through my backyard when it rains.

Appreciate all the feedback.
Since I "pre-bbqed" early on my ribs debating what my actual entry will be. As Deeprig pointed out I showed my hand on the ribs. Off to Striplings...

Most of my money has gone to land clearing. It's looking good and almost site ready.

I need to build a fence and get rid of some crappy old buildings next.

Tell me about the crappy old buildings and remind me which geographic area you are doing this? If I recall somewhere in Florida?

Ones an old trailer. Probably 60s or 70s. Was used as a workshop. I'm going to use the metal off it and trash rest.

Old 18 wheeler refridgerated trailer filled with old shite and building materials. Door jams and shite like that. Plan to empty out what I want and let someone scrap it.

One building (smaller old camper) My wife wants to make a chicken coop.

A second old trailer will probably stay and become storage.

Edit) florida panhandle

Late night Jah thought-

What if TMDawg is watching us all right now, waiting to drop in unannounced and take this whole thing away from us like he did TWICE in HGMF.

What if the latch was left unhooked...
