Everyone gather 'round. The semi-annual GSB Rib-Off is back. From now through Independence Day, cook meat over fire. Submissions open July 4th and July 5th, Eastern Standard Time.

It doesn't have to be ribs. But it must be meat and it must be cooked outdoors.

Starting July 6, ending at midnight 11:59PM EST July 7, the GSB users will vote for the best.

Users will pick a 1st place, a second place, and a third place. Each 1st place vote will count for 3 points. Each 2nd place vote will count for 2 points. Each 3rd place vote will count for 1 point. When it's all added up, the winner will be declared.

Competitors also vote, but can't vote for yourself for 1st, but you can vote yourself 2nd or 3rd.

Tips for first time participants-
Because nobody actually gets to taste your meat, you really need to sell it with pictures and great descriptions. Tell a story with your submission. Use the power of the written word to bring us into your BBQ experience. Make us wish we were at your house.

Also, side dishes aren't an official category, but a home run side dish can still enhance your submission and affect how someone votes. Maybe the voter can't decide who is #1 and #2, but they see that side dish and it can put you over the top.

Does anyone have any questions?

Does anyone have any questions?

Did Jefferson die?
Can we do multiple entries?
Also, does an outdoor griddle count?

He said he'll be at the beach and won't have the time or inclination to fool with it, and gave me his blessing to trot this out.

I haven't thought about it. What is a plausible reason to need multiple entries? One entry can have multiple pieces of meat.

If the griddle is heated by fire, I'll allow it.

I think making the contestants submit a song to go along with the meal would be a good idea.

Helps show the personality of the chef and meal.

Any one want to give some hints onto what type and cut of meat they will be using? Or type of cooking device?

Ribs are our tradition. My father always comes to stay with us, and his doctor told him he can only eat ribs on federal holidays, so that's the main reason we stick with ribs, for him. It's his favorite food. However, the way he likes them done won't be a winner here, so ribs done a couple ways is what I intend to do.

I'd put Members Mark ribs (25 minutes in the oven) up against anyone

If you are like my dad, and millions of others, and you just want Applebee's Riblets, I'm sure that's a fine and convenient product.

In addition to the final user vote tally, can I at least award a few prestigious Founders Ribbons for select entries from the beach chair?

For example:
-the Founder’s Blue Ribbon, which goes to the most spirited, enthusiastic, detailed, and original entry
-then maybe a couple other ribbons for yet to be announced categories
-and definitely one really mean spirited ribbon for the sorriest and most embarrassing entry

Once I’ve determined the categories, I will consult with past champions as we go to determine winners of the prestigious Founder’s Ribbons. So that it’s not just a dictatorship ribbon

Obviously, the main prize though is still to win the user vote RibOff championship vote.

Will you seriously be competing? I feel like I could help coach you into another e-championship if you’re interested

Key #1:
-the voters value authenticity
-most of these entries will be dumping store bought Arby’s sauce or one of those bottles from that Stubbs a-hole on their creation
-so all you have to do is make your own sauce
-tell the jury it’s a family secret
-and boom

Key #2:
-hit them in their soulwith a basic side dish
-potato salad or baked beans, something simple they can relate to, but with a twist on how your grandmother made it
-maybe pull on the jury’s heart strings by saying she always made it for you growing up and then you found the recipe in a book one day after she passed
-and this is the first time you’re trying to recreate it
-be humble
-share thoughtful memories of her sweating in the kitchen with love for her family
-you’ll have them eating out of the palm of your hand!

Key #3
-don’t underestimate beverage details

Let’s go!!!

If/when someone follows this playbook to the letter I'm gonna be inclined to vote for someone else due to plagiarising

Ok ok I'm forming a plan.

Is it cheating if your wife helps a little?

No. It’s encouraged (up to a point)

Also, don’t worry about what WGDawg said. Most eventual voters won’t read this far into first page of the thread.

And if he starts cutting and pasting things etc, we will weaponize it and use it to our advantage

I use IMGUR but that's probably considered old and out of style by now, there are probably better ones out.

But your question does remind me, and I meant to mention this earlier, people who don't know how to post their pics need to take the next few days to figure it out. On the SEC Rant Help Board you can make a Test topic and shitpost your failures and tests while assholes point and laugh at you.
