Was the kid just a really late bloomer? I remember some people talking him up but most at the time seemed to agree he wasn’t a take. Kids blossomed now though

Because he was a no-star recruit and his best offer was Wichita State.
And yes he was also a late bloomer, only averaged 6 points a game in two seasons at Wichita but then 16 at Oklahoma after a redshirt year.

I think it had more to do with grades

I wanted him a couple of years ago as a grad transfer but I guess last year he made up his mind that he wanted to go to the NBA.

yeah but he averaged like 30 a game or something crazy. Could drop bombs from deep even in HS. The school where I work played them in state tournament one year and I think they hit like 20 3 pointers as a team. He had 30+ and didn't play in the 4th quarter or some crazy thing like that. But I don't think many folks thought he translated to high level D1 at the time. Lots of folks missed on him. Not just Mike.

I talked with his parents at a game once. They said he went up to Fayetteville for an unofficial visit and hated it. Said there was no discipline in the program at all, and that it was essentially a bunch of “thugs” just playing ball and not going to class. You get the picture.
Makes complete sense coming from a Mike Anderson ran program. So he went to Wichita. Definitely don’t blame him given that picture of circumstances.

Yeah… I get “the picture”. Sounds like it was best for everyone. Surprised he didn’t transfer to the B1G. Seems like Wisconsin would’ve suited his tastes well…

Ain’t a race thing. It’s a lack of discipline. Players essentially only there to play ball. Skipping class. Late to practice. Acting “above the law” bc they are on the ball team. Several programs like that across the land. Arkansas was one under Anderson. No longer under Muss
