I mentioned this in the More Sports Board thread. Saw a post today where someone related a story about an unidentified NFL defender from that era being asked what it was like playing against Jim Brown, and he replied, “Imagine how getting hit by a car for three hours feels.”

He retired "early", right? No injury or playing poorly?

He was great at beating women

Another Great Georgia running back! He hated Whitey tho, so that took me off the fan list.

Jim Brown found his NFL career right in the middle of the Civil rights movement. He was pictured with Ali, Jabbar, and Russell and that was who he was.
What's strange about his career that ended at only 29, I read he was filming the Dirty Dozen overseas and the filming was running long due to weather. He said he was planning on playing football that season but Cleveland's Modell started fining him 100 dollars a day. He didn't want to leave filming so the next day he retired on camera. Truthfully he liked what he was doing and he wasn't giving up his movie career. The rest is history.

Who remembers who all was in The Dirty Dozen ? Jim is the one that ran with a sack of hand grenades and dropped them in the air vents that had already been doused with gasoline. As I recall, he was shot after dropping the last one. The whole thing would have worked for it not for Telly Savalas screwing with one of the chamber maids. Seems like John Cassavetes was the only survivor.

I thought it was Charles Bronson who survived. You can't kill Bronson.

No doubt. Instead, they give it to the QB of a 2-8 ND team. Paul Hournig.

He’s no Barry Sanders but was a solid player.

While in England filming ‘The Dirty Dozen’, in 1966, Brown was threatened with big fines per day by Art Model for missing the start of training camp. So Brown went home, called a press conference, and retired on the spot like a boss. He was only 30 and was still in top physical condition; he could have played several more years easily. He’d led the league in rushing the previous season, was the league MVP and the Browns had won the NFL Championship in 1965.

quote:His running style and that of Sanders was night and day. My team was the Colts so naturally I didn't like him but I'm over that. The only thing I didn't like about him after each run, he took for ever to get up not hurt but sort of a drama queen move. Someone can check me out but I believe he was also an All American in Lacrosse at Syracuse.

Lee Marvin (Major, not part of the Dozen) and Charles Bronson survived.
Last line, Bronson: “Killin’ Generals could get to be a habit with me.”
An all-time classic movie, and Jim Brown was great in it.

I can see him being a racist, as anyone who is a serial female abuser has a lot of hate in him. Yea, read that about him, too.
