Arkansas was a 24 point underdog going into the game with 78% of their scoring suspended from the team. An unknown running back, Roland Sales, set an orange bowl rushing record with 206 yards.

There were tons of new year's day leftovers thrown & tossed about living rooms in Oklahoma that day

But yes I never understood why our schools didn't negotiate a home-and-home at least a few times over the years.

Google SWitzer Lacewell Affair. Multiple pages confirming my report except Lacewell was the defensive coordinator.

The attitude that Broyles inherited from John Barnhill was conference championships not national rankings was the main "goal". Bowl games were more a reward for a good regular season

The 4 non-conference games were money making home games. Oklahoma State was the Little Rock first game and Tulsa was Fayettevile opener.

Never going to get agreement to that from Oklahoma. Plus Bud Wilkinson raised buying players to an art form back in the late 40's and 50's.

The first home and home opener was USCw in the early 70's.

Edit: actually Stanford was before USC, IIRC.

I do wish OU and Arkansas end up in the same pod. Its crazy how close Arkie is to Tulsa.
