Wanting 30 million from the school and 10 million from Jalen.
UGA response
quote:
Dave Willock Sr., the father of former University of Georgia football player Devin Willock, has filed a lawsuit against the school’s athletic association, Eagles’ first-round pick Jalen Carter and others over the January car crash that killed his son and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy. News of the lawsuit was first reported by WSBTV and later confirmed by The Athletic through a spokesperson with the Gwinnett County (Ga.) courthouse.
UGA response
quote:
The attorneys who filed the complaint have refused to provide any factual basis for their claims against the athletic association, and we believe the evidence will prove them to be without merit. We intend to strongly dispute these baseless allegations in Court,” the University of Georgia athletic association said in a statement.

Money grab from what could be called an estranged father.
It sounds like uga will put up a defense.

Don’t think UGA will end up owing them much here, certainly not $30M, as long as it can’t be proven that LeCroy was asked to entertain them that night.
Also, probably would’ve gotten more from Jalen Carter in the long run if they had just started a foundation and asked Jalen to support it. Now he’s gonna fight this, likely win, and then be pissed at the family
Don’t really think lawsuits were the way to go here. Should’ve started a GFM and foundations and asked for their support instead of suing

I know legalities and the law itself are complicated, but I can’t imagine how a man in a separate vehicle could be held responsible in any way for DW’s death. I would think that suit would be better directed at the Lecroy family (though I wish there was no suit at all) but that family isn’t an impending cash cow like Carter is.

Makes absolutely zero sense to go after Jalen for doing the same thing Devin was doing.

Devin wasn't the driver. If they could somehow prove that Jalen was responsible for starting the drag racing with a drunk Lecroy, that would be the angle they are trying to approach. I don't agree with it, but obviously Jalen is the one with money here and not the backing of the State like the University.
Like I said, if they really wanted money from JC, that should have been some private conversations way before litigation about donations, foundation, etc. Now, maybe thats happened and JC told him to pound sand. Who knows.

this is pretty much all there is to it. As an outsider it's really annoying that UGA continues to have its name dragged through the mud on this and the issue will not go away becuase of dumb shite like this. I've never lost a child so i can't possibly imagine the grief invovled, but this motherfricker is even suing the car dealership where Jalen got his ride. I mean this dude is grasping at straws and throwing as much shite against the wall as possible in hopes of etting cash from anyone and everyone he can. It's disgusting. There is only one, single, solitary person responsbile for the death and that person is no longer living. I'm nto sure what needs ot be done about it, but this surely aint it

And that is why I sort of expect Morrisette to be dismissed. The program perception was suffering on the heels of all this (I mean, we all know what’s what, but nationally speaking the casual media perceived Kirby to not have as much control as he should) and then he goes and gets arrested on some moronic driving related offenses.

I wouldn't dismiss Morissette because of the mistakes of others.
Unfortunately, he will be paying a heavy price in front of his teammates.
He will most certainly wish that he made better choices.

Unless they find an email of a coach or staff telling her to drive them around that night..not sure they have anything.
Jalen possibly if they get any video or 3rd party confirming he was part of the cause.
No doubt there are texts out there that shouldn’t see light.

Good. Trying to exploit your son's death for your own financial gain makes you a piece of shite. $40M isn't some pain and suffering settlement.

They were trying to blackmail uga regarding toppers.
The administration obviously isn't blinking

But they saw boobs at toppers!
Who hasn't. Grow up.

Yeah, I understand, but passengers can be held responsible as well.

According to the dad's attorney, some high schoolers saw them at toppers too.
UGA isn't a warden. Kids go places. On their own free will if you would believe it.

The complicating factor is that this is ANOTHER automobile-related set of charges when it's already a tense subject. There were scores of articles written between the crash and draft day questioning the "culture" of the team.
Now Morrisette loses his mind and tack on ANOTHER set of charges? The DUI is bad enough, but the timing is what might be the straw that broke the camel's back, if indeed he is dismissed.
I hope for his sake he gets another chance but if he doesn't, it's not like he could say they didn't know it was such a sore subject.

The concern is all this is young men/women being careless and stupid.
Ever single incident has been avoidable. These aren’t accidents.
These athletes always have somebody that could drive them.
Externally , it is a distraction and certainly gives the appearance of a lack of discipline.

The university system, professional sports and the players themselves have a huge opportunity to change what is a poor minority culture in the U.S.
Many of these high school kids have been raised rather not raised properly in a a drug, gang, rap culture that is not healthy.
These guys need training in life when they get into college and need to understand the negative financial consequences of poor behavior.
All it takes is one bad choice like this for young people to be killed and for the lives of the survivors to be scarred forever.
If enough of these players in college and in the pros can be enlightened and enough of them go back to their communities to enlighten those they left behind, them perhaps over time a rotten culture can be transformed into something much more positive.

Avoidability does not change the definition of "accidents".
I'm not sure your point with that statement. But it isn't accurate.
I never subscribe to the "Boys will be boys" mentality.
But I do have common sense.
Give a 21 year old money and 700 horsepower. This is the result for Jalen.
Give 21 year olds money, and they are going to clubs.
It is the biggest reason why the NFL won't draft kids until 3 years out of high school (to protect the shield).
