Congrats to Vincent High School (my Alma Mater) and Appalachian (Coached by one of my good Buddy's Brandon Johnson who also won his 500th game this post season) for making it to the State Championship. Appalachian in 1A, Vincent in 2A.
Both teams have players that I coached during the summer. Zach Carlisle at Vincent. Caden Jones at Appalachian.
I'm still searching to see if any other series have been completed to determine who will be the representatives of the classes.
I think 2A is Vincent and Ariton.

My Oxford Yellow Jackets are pretty stacked this year. Got by the perceived best team left last week in Hartselle.
We will see how it goes the rest of the way. They get Cullman this week to decide that side of the bracket. Rumors swirling about Coach Brooks retiring if he wins it. We will see. Brooks has won one title at Oxford in his 20 years but has caught some tough breaks with teams that were really good.

Oxford has been a great program over the years.

Brandon is a good guy, He deserves all of the success he is having. My son plays with Brandon's son Kolt at Southside. Great Family

No doubt. They have just caught some bad breaks and/or run into teams that were nowhere near as talented, but were just hot at the right time. That's just how it goes in baseball though. But he's been at it for 20 years at oxford and the rumors are that he wants to win it and go out on top and then move into the AD role.
Oxford has benefitted from a guy that played at State then was drafted by Tampa around 20 years ago named Matthew Maniscalco being really involved with the youth programs. He has started a couple travel ball teams and has a good network of "baseball guys" all over the SE. Like one of his travel ball teams is coached by guys that all played pro ball at some level. So a lot of the kids that have come through OHS over the past 15 years were pretty well developed and had good understanding of how to be coached.

Brandon and Amy are super people. He won a state championship at Clay-Chalkville as well. I think Brandon may stop coaching after Kutter graduates next year.

Nerd not sure how old you are but do you remember when Jason Jack played at Oxford? Late 80’s

I didn't realize he was at Clay-Chalkville. I know several people who were upset when he left Etowah.
Kutter is a heck of a ball player. Kolt is a heck of a catcher, as well as the team clown.

Everytime Kolt would see me he would go where you been old man. Lol he is a cut up for sure.
Brandon and I coached a 6 year old park team together one year when my youngest and Kutter were in the park. Brandon wasn’t used to coaching kids that young I would be cracking up listening to him trying to teach them advanced drills. Obviously we were the helper Dads.
Yes he was at Appalachian then Clay-Chalkville, he quit there because he raised money for his program and they wanted to take it and put it in the booster fund and he was like nope not happening because the boosters only cared about football, then to Etowah and I think they wanted Bone to come so I think it was kind of a mutual parting of the ways, so he went back to Appalachian to finish out. If Kutter wasn’t almost done not sure if he would have continued to coach after Etowah

I got ya, Kolt is the life of the party.
I don't blame Brandon though, if he wins this year he will have 2 state rings. I would retire too.
I think it is that way everywhere, baseball gets what football has left over.

Hes quite a bit older than me, but the Jack family is pretty well known in town. I believe he was the QB on the '88 or '89 state championship teams(maybe both, I'm 38 so it was before my time).
I think he had a younger brother that played and graduated with my brother in the mid 90s. Blanking on his name though.

Good for Appalachian. I'm originally from Blount County, can't think of them ever winning much in any sport. Few decent years of football here and there, but not much going for them outside of that.

Jason Jack and I made it to the finals together as seniors in the East West Lions games. He was good at baseball as well as football. We both were quarterbacks so we had some things in common.

CSB, but my grandfather played ball at Vincent back in the 40s. He passed away and left me his varsity letter about a year ago. Was wondering if the school was still around.
Posted on 5/11/23 at 5:25 pm to RandySavage
yes it's still around and still in the same school. It was built in 1929. East side shelby county school that gets shite on. All other schools in the county have been rebuilt multiple times over the years.
There are 2 districts in the Shelby County BOE. Vincent in one district all other schools in the other district.
Your grandfather probably played with a lot of my relatives my uncles would have been playing around that time. He tell any stories of the Brasher boys? My grandfather had 14 children 10 boys and 4 girls.
My grandfather also coached the Dothan Boll Weevils (semi-pro) baseball team in the 30's and 40's

Nerd your boys made it to the Finals. Not sure what days they play next week.

Yeah I went since they played in Oxford. Got rained out Wednesday and played 2 last night. Oxford came out and cruised in the 1st game 11-0. I left early during the 2nd game but they won 5-3.
Game 1 of the championship round is Tuesday against Spanish Fort. Game 2 is Wednesday.

Choccolocco on Tuesday and Jacksonville st on Wednesday?
Posted on 5/12/23 at 10:12 am to CorchJay
Yes.
Kinda my only gripe is scheduling Game 2 that could possibly clinch a state title at 10am on a Wednesday morning. I know they have a bunch of stuff scheduled for both venues this time of year for various tournaments, but you would think they'd be able to fit in the championship rounds for 1A-7A in the evenings and over the weekend throughout a week. That way more people could go watch easier.
