My oldest is going to be a freshman on the hill next fall. Auditioned and received a scholarship to be a member of the Razorback marching band. Picked his dorm room yesterday. Greggson. He's planning on majoring in supply chain management.

All my years of donations and tickets must've worked on him.

Go Hogs!

Very nice! Gregson…. is an acquired taste but it’s a living space for a college freshman, what can you expect.

My wife (no pics) was in the band all 4 years and loved it! Much less stressful than high school band.

He's paying for everything out of his own pocket, cost was his number one priority. Lol

With the way rent has crept up in recent years I'll change my usual advice of move off campus after your freshman year and live on a bus route. Staying on campus, unless you go in with several friends on an apartment, is likely to be cheaper now.

The food in the cafeterias isn't wonderful... but its part of the package and paid for. Eating at the Student Union or on Dickson street can get expensive. I'd save it for special occasions.

The health clinic is free, use it for anything stronger than a paper cut. He's already paying for it with his tuition after all.

I am sure he won't go out to such establishments, but if he does, the North College strip clubs look nicer but he'll get more bang for his buck at Bottom's Up. Not that he will go of course.

Supply chain management is in high demand in the area so tell him to keep an eye open for internships. There is an excellent chance he can graduate and walk right into a solid paying job the very next day.

Congrats to you and him! I hope he has a great time on campus and if he needs something there are tons of us up here in the hills, let us know if we can help.

Thanks for all the tips. He’s actually got his housing taken care of after freshman year. Wife has a cousin who lives in rogers who is going to give him the upstairs. He’s met with quite a few people from supply chain department at Walton and they’ve echoed the same sentiment. Just graduate and you’ll have a job ready to go.

I graduated with SCM and had a job already lined up my junior year. Easy path to get into in NWA.

The daily commute will wear on him but Rogers is a great place to live. The only "problem" is that it is a foodies paradise up here. So he can find just about anything he wants to eat. Which can deplete the bank account.

I hate to be a complete cheapo but I'd advise picking up the staples at the Aldis in Rogers and then going to either Harps or Walmart for you other needs.

He will love it up here I am sure.

I would imagine after a year up there he'll probably be ready to get back to Fayetteville so he doesn't have to commute but he thinks he'll be fine. We'll see. He's a pretty dedicated kid but who knows what'll happen.

We were on the field for a game one time when he was about 8 and the band walked by and he was just in awe. I've got a picture of it. After they went past he told me one day he would be marching on that field. Pretty cool to see him make his dreams come true.

One day it will be his kid standing on that field. That is the thing about Arkansas... we tend to come back to the University.
