Calipari and Pitino are tied for number of schools taken to a final four (3 each)

Pitino wants to surpass cal in this aspect while at st johns

quote:

“I’ve had the good fortune to take three different schools to a Final Four. John Calipari has also taken three different schools, we’re the only two people,” Pitino said in an interview with ESPN on Tuesday. “I want to take St. John’s to another Final Four so I can get rid of Calipari off my resume.”

Well it's not like Calipari is going to be adding to his total anytime soon.

Calipari has made over $100m at this point.

A lot of these guys with huge, generational contracts just seem to lose their fire along the way.

Certainly makes you wonder where that fine line is between "locking down a coach" and giving him enough money where he just doesn't care anymore.

Can’t believe you guy still put up with Cal. The Kentucky I grew up watching would’ve fired his arse a year after he made those comments about prioritizing getting players to the NBA over winning titles. What’s going on at UK?

If all the tournament wins from Calipari’s 1st two final fours were vacated, did he really take 3 schools to the final four?

Calipari's final fours from UMASS and Memphis were vacated by the NCAA. So he has only officially taken 1 school to the final four.

It is funny how both coaches had final fours taken.

Yet the NCAA still lists them on their official website.

This sounds like a cope post by a fan of a school that's never made the final four, much less won a championship

I did not know that. I personally thought it was BS what the NCAA did to you all when they let UNC skate for years of fake classes and phony grades.

Over $30 million buyout, if it went down today, happened. What you said, just with some numbers to back it.

Mitch Barnhart happened - the AD. This all happened because Cal had his agent negotiate with UCLA ... TO TAKE A PAY CUT TO LEAVE.

Barnhart ... in a stupid moment only Barnhart could make ... chose to money whip Calipari ... when Calipari was negotiating a pay cut to leave.

Blame John Calipari first for the current state of Kentucky Basketball. Blame Mitch Barnhart a close second.

Meh. $8M a year for 6-7 records isn't going to be fun for long. But idiot coaches who aren't winning 6 games are making $5M a year.
