To defend a couple of folks on this board, per PM on 247, crazy money if true...

Big payday for Ryan Williams

I didn’t believe it and I still don't know for certain, but now I have heard it from a source I consider quite reliable. Wide receiver Ryan Williams apparently will get $2 million-plus for signing with Alabama. I doubt Auburn was willing to go that high. Will he be worth it? I don’t believe any high school player is worth that kind of money. It’s perfectly legal, but it’s another sign of just how out of control the whole NIL thing is.

Seems logical. Bama football was bleeding out and needed something to change the perception of the program. RW gets a big bag and gets to be the man at Bama. Auburn wasn't near as desperate, even though it would've been nice to have RW.

What i've said for a while. Nothing is a done deal anymore in the NIL era until they sign on paper (and even then you have the transfer portal now). I know we were offering him a ton of money, but there was always a possibility someone could come in and offer enough of a bump to change his mind. Bama, after the upheaval of their class and transfers when Saban retired, needed a win and ponied up for it.

Doesn’t really defend anyone when people in this thread were asking”how can it be a done deal? What if Bama throws a bag at the end?”
