If Auburn wanted to hire a Coach that knows how to beat Saban...

I put together a chart of coaches that have beat Saban multiple times since he came to the SEC (2000)
Coach wins vs Saban Current Employer

Tuberville 4 US Senate
Gus Malzahn 3 UCF
Les Miles 3 unemployed
Steve Spurier 3 Head Ball Coach
Hugh Freeze 2 Auburn
Dabo Swinney 2 Clemson
Urban Meyer 2 Fox Sports
Mark Richt 2 ACC Network
Houston Nutt 2 CBS Sports
Hugh might have been the only option on this list that made any sense.

I'm more worried about beating Georgia. frick, Harsin damn near beat Alabama last year.

As for me I want to beat all the teams in our schedule. I’m sure every other team that has Bama on their schedule really wants to beat them. Uga is one that I would like to get a win against more than Bama at this point.

For Auburn to have a shot at glory, they'll have to be able beat 2 out of Alabama, Georgia and LSU every season. With Freeze, I don't see that happening.

I mean the obvious response to the Malzahn comparison is Ole Miss v. Auburn. But does that hold up once you consider the recruits/talent Hugh was bringing to Oxford? He was getting top tier talent to Oxford and it's not clear that he will be able to recruit better to Auburn than he did to Ole Miss.

Makes sense and we almost beat them last year with Harsin and our third string QB who was banged up… I am more focused on beating UGA actually….

There are 8 active head coaches that have wins over Saban during his time at Alabama.
Five of those 8 are in the SEC.
Three of those 5 are in the SEC west.
Five of those 8 are in the SEC.

This cycle is very weak with respect to the HC candidate pool... Fickell, Freeze, Rhule (overrated), and technically Kiffin... that's it.
I guess Auburn could have hired another no-name G5 coach (Harsin 2.0) and I am sure SEC fans would have loved it... (promoting Caddy was never an option and yes, I am sure that many SEC fans were hoping for this scenario)...
