Jimbo says beating LSU would be 'huge' but doesn't want a bowl invite

“I think it’s huge. Again, with the future and what you have here, which we believe is extremely bright; where we’re going and what we’re doing with these guys, playing together and being together,” Jimbo Fisher said.
“I think for the seniors, it’s a great sendoff and the last time they walk into that stadium. And another lesson on perseverance, not letting circumstances dictate who you are and what you are. But how you deal with them and preserve through. I think it would be great for those seniors and a great message for these young players heading into the offseason.”

If there aren’t enough teams with at least six wins to fill all the available bowl slots, then 5-7 teams could potentially be slotted into a bowl game. However, when he was asked about this on the Jimbo Fisher Radio Show, Fisher immediately shot the idea down.
“No,” Jimbo Fisher succinctly said.

For a coach who is normally happy to speak his mind, Jimbo Fisher chose not to expand on why he wouldn’t want that. After all, a lot of coaches like to go to a bowl game because it gives their team extra practice time that teams that don’t make a bowl don’t get.

He's still the richest overgrown oompa loompa in all of history and no one can take that from him

Why would he want to work for an extra game when he gets paid no matter what?
On a serious note, I’m not sure how excited I’d be to see A&M in a bowl this year. It’d be a nothing bowl against a lame opponent that would probably beat us, and whatever is left of our roster would probably opt out.

I don't blame him. If they beat LSU there isn't a bowl matchup they'd qualify for where a win would be any bigger than beating LSU and a loss against a middling team would dissipate the steam from that win
And of course the most likely outcome is they end up 4-8 and then they're for sure not getting a bowl invite because they go to 5-7 teams to fill the gaps first.
No point in worrying about it, the LSU game IS their bowl game.

The extra practices are big, especially if they hire a new OC.

He doesn’t need to worry about a bowl or beating lsu. Neither will happen.

Wait a second.
Reading between the lines here…
The bowl invite would be extended to the school, not to Jimbo.
Jimbo is contractually obligated to coach football games at A&M.
If he refuses to coach, we have cause.

Normally I'd agree but A&M has had a horrible season and their image and public perception has taken a big hit. If they do happen to beat LSU then that's a huge boost to end the season on, you ride that wave to the offseason, and obviously a loss would mean you have no chance of going. I don't think a new OC would be at practice for the bowl game anyway.

I think it's a loser mentality not to want to play in a bowl game.

You had cause last year after he ran from Wake Forest if going by that logic

He is just trying to keep an attainable goal for the team.

This part is extremely well said and is damn near impossible to get kids that age to understand. Well, at least my kid that age doesn't get it.

RIP the last sliver of doubt anyone had about dodging Wake Forest last year.

I have this suspicion that Jimbob pulls a Spencer Rattler performance out of nowhere on LSU tomorrow.

Sidewalk Ag with the daily Texas A&M report. Like the sun rising.

But highly unlikely.

And here you are crying, right on schedule.

Why would he accept a bowl invite only later to forfeit the game?

Arkansas played its worst game of the Pittman era against A&M and was a missed late FG away from winning despite that.
With no insult intended to my Aggie friends on here, A&M is baaaad this year. If they beat LSU it would be a real upset.
