Hoke said King talked to Cadillac last week and that’s when he decided to stay. Hoke said he would’ve never announced entering if Harsin hadn’t made him to save his redshirt

Well, that's a King issue, not a Harsin issue. Kids can't decide to take a scholarship and also decide if they want to play or not.

ETA: The downvote without explanation is cowardly.

I get both sides of the argument. Players shouldn’t be deciding if they’re going to redshirt or not based off how they like how their season has gone, but we’ve also heard reports that made Harsin seem at best careless (and at worst malicious) with guys redshirts.

It’s an interesting discussion I think. Personally, I kinda agree with boro. You’re taking a scholarship, you shouldn’t decide to quit halfway through and expect to remain with the team AND retain eligibility. At the same time, hard to ignore how detached a lot of kids had become to the coach and how little accounting was happening with eligibility.

Not sure there’s a clear line to draw.

This is new.

There were no redshirts accidently burned. There were no eligibility that came close to being burned.

Harsin is no hill I would die on but many things that wouldn't be acceptable anywhere are used against the man. King is one of those.

King quit Auburn. The players that didn't are playing Alabama this week.

Reportedly one was almost accidentally burned and the player (thought to be TJ I believe) refused to go in at the end of the game.

Well I don’t think you get credit for not burning redshirts on accident when kids were quitting after their 3rd game because they were afraid of getting a few ST snaps

We were going to redshirt our starting QB? What world have I found myself in?

Step away from the anti-Harsin stance and think about this objectively.

I don’t really feel sorry for TJ. He signed up for Harsin and wanted to play until he proved he sucked at this level

So they are quitters. There was no redshirt or eligibility issue.

Give me an example of any coach, anywhere, in any division or conference where this would be accepted.

Auburn, 2022, Cadillac allowing Landen King back on the team Or does that not count?

The redshirt process is typically handled between the player and staff. It’s a decision made between both parties. However, Harsin decided he wasn’t interested in doing that

Just a reminder, I generally agree with you. Not a huge fan of players deciding to redshirt themselves. Especially guys that are getting PT. But this is a two way street and I don’t think we have all the info.

But I won’t hold it against anyone for feeling otherwise

Cadillac didn't do anything. He can't decide if a player enters the portal or not. Of course, he could persuade.

I'm not trying to be obtuse and I'm not unhappy that Harsin is gone, but in this age of NIL and Portal, it's too easy to ignore the weak (King) and blame the unsupported coach.
