Question came up with friends on Sugar Bowl. I thought the loser of SEC Championship got an auto bid now unless like last year both teams got in playoff and Ole Miss got the spot.
Anybody confirm their current selection process ?

Highest ranked SEC team not in the playoffs is what I thought.

We’ll do the rest of the league a favor and go ahead and decline the invite now. Make your plans accordingly.

The other 13 teams in the conference are not like Aggie. Go to the American where you frickers belong.

Wake Forest won’t be there. You’ll be fine.

I used to think that also but seems the loser got shafted a few years back and sent to a much smaller bowl. After that SB agreed to take SEC loser unless in playoff in which case highest ranked remaining SEC team got a bid like Ole Miss last year ??

Step 1: If the league champ isn’t in the playoffs, league champ gets it.

Step 2: Otherwise, highest ranked SEC team not in the playoffs.

Unfortunately for the good guys, I think we’re going to be the first example of Step 1 there if we do win out.

Contract with the SEC states the highest ranked team according to the playoff system. So if LSU wins the west but loses to Georgia and Tennessee is not selected for the playoffs and is ranked higher than LSU, Tennessee goes to the Sugar Bowl.
The Big 12 conference is different.
