So based on lots of info from ULL podcast guy and consuming articles this year, I believe several things to be true about this year and where we are going. Some have stated these in different threads but I find it helpful to put altogether, maybe you will too. Curious as to how many agree/disagree and if you think it will work:

1). Billy “could” tweak the offense to help AR some but doesn’t want to.

I think he’s a process guy to a default and he is quietly fine giving up a couple wins this year to thoroughly establish “his” system. Which leads me to

2). AR is going pro. Regardless of his numbers, etc I think AR will get a 1st round or 2nd round grade at worst. I think both Billy and AR know that he won’t be around next year which is why he isn’t really building the team around him.

3). DC “could” make tweaks to have us playing better but won’t. See #1 above. The plan is to implement the base defense and also, like AR, they know many of these players will be gone before next spring.

Now I don’t necessarily agree with this, but I distinctly and clearly remember the ULL guy saying we would be frustrated the first year. But that the second year and beyond we would understand and reap the rewards.

For what it’s worth

Year 1 at ULL: 7-7. Year 2: 11-3.

Can this be replicated here? Will it work? I don’t know. But for better or worse we know this guy has a program building vision, and he’s executed it once with great success.

Anyway it would help us all feel better if we finish 8-4 or 7-5 versus 6-6 or 5-7. But in the big picture what matters is recruiting and Year 2. I say this for myself too as it’s easy to get caught up in the frustration of losing a lot and seeing like Tenn going off.

But let’s see us in year 2 versus a Tenn team that replaces everyone and UK with no NFL QB. I think 9-3 is a reasonable expectation and would help many of us feel we are on the right track. If we are like 7-5 or worse year 2 then I think the seat gets warm unless 24 class is legit top 5.

Thoughts?

Not tweaking things to win a few extra games seems detrimental but that’s just my opinion. If that’s his plan then he damn well better win more next year.

Who will be the qb in 23 then?

At 6-6 or worse this fanbase will eat him alive. And it’s not like he has ab east schedule next year so 11 wins is unlikely and if he isn’t at double digit wins he’s already on the hot seat if he tanks year 1.

I mean, who on this roster next year that isn’t a true freshman is going to be any good? Shemar James is athletic but plays like a chicken with his head cutoff. The whole secondary is struggling to do anything right. The DL has no special players beyond Cox. The offense is basically the same players with kitna or miller as qb? Probably a worse ol cause a few could go pro.

Like that team won’t be projected higher than 3rd or 4th in the east. The coaches would have to be miracle workers.

I 100% like a guy that has a vision and "a process" and has the balls to stick to it. For better or worse, Napier is our guy for the next few years so I'm telling myself he will make it work.
I've seen some great things this year from the coaches, but also been pretty frustrated with some things they've done. All in all, I still have optimism that this staff will get it done.

Mullen has been baking this cake with his pisspoor recruiting over the years. Don’t get mad at Billy because he’s the one pulling it from the oven.

Look at our overall composite team grade on 24/7. We are less than a point from having a 3 star roster. Most bringing down the avg are on defense.

We can’t bitch about recruits leaving the state, not landing too guys then try n hang the new staff for the shitshow they inherited.

“I need to coach better” translation: I’m getting all I can from these players. He’s working with:
A QB who’s inaccurate. An OL with 2 3 star players. No real threat at WR. We have a former DL playing TE.
It’s worse on Defense.

AR going 1st or 2nd round would be the biggest joke in history even among the crazy joke QB picks NFL teams have made in the past based on his play so far. The only rationale for something that crazy would be a backup plan to make him a TE. The NFL doesn't give you an opportunity to learn the very basics of actually seeing the field on the job.

I think we are the rest of this year and next year away from being any good. Maybe in 2024 this team will show some promise.

I think Napier will clean house, as he should. It’s going to get worse before it gets better. Napiers year 1 may be one of the worst in program history. But building a 10+ win program at ULL and doing it at Florida are two totally different things.

For all the things the talking heads say about BN being a relentless recruiter, I say this: Show me. Don’t tell me, show me.

Reality is that he needs this year and next year to get enough talent to move the needle. But then they’ve got to have some experience and be coached up too. If we don’t win 10 games in year 3, then he’s gone.

Mullen really left us in a hell hole.
