Stopping Tennessee offense

Tennessee seems to thrive against the zone defense and find open spots for long gainers. Any of you think the way to combat this is to run more man coverage or is that just another way to get beat deep?

Disrupt, confuse, harrass, bump wrs some plays bit not others, have all blitzs get home with force. Stone their run game.
Jalen Carter is our most important player in this game, he could tie up 2-3 guys clearing the way for everyone else.
On offense long 8 minute drives with tds at the end. Brutality across the trenches ro the point they lay down. Playaction of the run game.
No turnovers or sloppy penalties.

I have no doubt our coaches can scheme against this offense. The trick is going to be making sure our secondary doesn’t blow assignments or get confused…a concern due to their inexperience. Hooker sees his windows quickly and gets the ball out fast and accurately.
Also we HAVE to get pressure with our front and disrupt his timing. If he has to make plays on the run rather than slicing up the zone I like our chances.
Just call me Captain Obvious but it really is that simple.

DBs have to play sound football from start to finish. UT has made a living of gutting opponents when they make a mistake in coverage.

Shut down the run game and short passing game without committing extra guys to do it and we’ll be fine.

This. UT is a running team. They run 60% of the time. Everyone focusing on their passing is the magic of the tar baby that Heupel sits out there for his opposition.
The secret sauce is tempo. Don't let that tempo catch you out of position when they do pass. Keep the confusion down.

I've noticed once hooker gets hit a few times in a row his accuracy crumbles (way high, low in the dirt), and the more quickly he breaks from the pocket thus sending the play into helter-skelter mode. Our DB's, CB,s and LB,s have always been extremely fast at running forward to stop these broken-down plays. We hit hooker so much last year that he was taken out of the game.

Welk, what did Pitt and Florida do? They got pretty close.

Get the right personnel in the field for their drives, because you’re not going to get much of a chance to sub in and out. That was a BIG issue last night against KY.

Yes, but isn't this true of most, if not all, highly accurate passers? Hooker is mostly accurate because he's throwing to wide open receivers. It's like batting practice to Mickey Mantle.
A better way to disrupt Hooker is breaking the tempo. Shutting down the run, which they rely upon, heavily, but don't get caught selling out to the run like Bama did (that safety/receiver matchup accounted for 6 touchdowns, I think, on seven catches...) The good thing here is that UGA doesn't really have to "sell out" to stop the run.
But, yeah, I'd like to play Smear the Queer with Hooker, and throw him off a bit. You still have to account for Hooker's legs, at that point.
Overall, Kirby's version of Bend Don't Break is an elite, aggressive version, that relies heavily upon speed. I think that UGA can keep everything in front of them, which will limit the qick strikes we saw against Alabama, and creat smaller and smaller windows for Hooker, and could cause him to make some ill advised passes, IF we are shutting down the run.

UK was absolutely shook by that Tempo. Caught out of position, subbing, not set.
They WERE the tar baby by the end of the first half.

Get to hooker and bring him down in the backfield. We had some issues letting these guys escape should-be sacks. Majority of the time they only get a few yards, but we are going to need every inch against them.

Uhhhh. Maybe the same way we did it last year in Knoxville. I mean, there IS a blueprint. Neither system has changed.

Their first drive looked good last year. Then he started throwing a lot of bad balls after we started to hit him. The coaches know what they’re doing.
Strange times we’re using the off week before Florida to prep for the game afterwards.

Is that true?

Tempo offenses are usually highly scripted the first series, I've heard it said.
Whatever that actually means.
Sounds like they run to a script, no matter what, based upon game film tendencies of the opposition. They then adjust from there. Not sure how or if this differs from what any other offensive coordinator does.

Dude, do you really think that UGA stands no chance to win if we give up 40+? You posted that on the rant.

Stop the run. Play 2 high safety all game for deep ball protection. Blitz LB’s and confuse their O-Line… Hooker will crumble.

They have been prepping for Tennessee during every game week from what I heard. That offense is different. Super wide splits and the tempo create unique problems.
Got to let them do whatever they want in between the 20s and just avoid the big play...if they want to throw 5 straight WR screens, so be it. Then buckle down in the red zone and hope for a field goal.
