Kirby has made the statement several times this year that “our team was just better than their team” or some semblance of that thought. Beyond the fact that it’s obviously true, it was surprising to me how blatantly he said it, forgoing the typical talk of how good the other guys are, how much we respect them, yada yada.

I think Kirby is intentional with everything he says and does. With this departure from the typical coach-speak, what are the thoughts on what he’s trying to accomplish?

Creating confidence for him and his team. That positively helps recruiting and our brand.

Its like being a fighter pilot, if you dont think you are the best based on your results, no one else will either.

I've observed the opposite in most cases. Did you get this hot take from Chuck Oliver?

I have heard him essentially say we were just better on a couple occasions.

He’s said Georgia has better players after a few wins this season. Including Oregon.

I recall him saying some shite like that after last year's Florida game because he was trying to get Mullin fired after Mulllin said he doesn't focus on recruiting during the season, it was a shot to Mullin. And I think I recall him saying it one other time after a win against Samford or Kent or some other cupcake. I don't recall him saying it about any P5 team other than Florida, like you said he said after Oregon. I'm not challenging you to cite every instance. I am just saying it's not a common theme, just something he has said every once in a while. I don't think it is anything to hyperfocus on. Things to hyperfocus on would be "How are KMac's multiple thigh contusions? How is Jalen Carter's injury coming along? Is Arik Gilbert really back? Is Washington NFL-bound? Etc" I just think it's a silly OP. No disrespect, just stating my opinion.

He definitely said UGA had better players after the Oregon game. I remember thinking Lanning could’ve easily taken it as offensive. There were at least two other games after which he’s said something similar.

Statements like this are out of character for most coaches, especially one that is typically polished like Kirby. Also, L&H said it was to boost confidence, but he’s always said they do their talking on the field, not in cheap post game comments. It doesn’t make sense that’s why I think he has a strategy or intention, it’s just not obvious.

You can do your talking on the scoreboard and confident in your team at a press conference. Its not binary.

I kind of assumed it was because he liked Lanning and knew he just annihilated him in his first game and was just making the point that he had a lot more talent to work with than Lanning did.

He is throwing cover for the opposing head coach (their loss was Jimmies and Joe's. Not Xs and Os).

He is also prepping his team that there will come games when we do not have a talent advantage and need to be precise in technique and execution. Keep getting better because we aren't there yet.

I took it the same way. He down played the out coaching narrative to the obvious fact....UGA has a significantly better roster.

There’s still plenty of coach speak and that dude clearly hates taking to the media. I think he’s saying it to use later in his campaign to move the WLOCP to a home and home.

Kirby is dealing with a younger team than last year. It is all about confidence for this team.

Their confidence had to have been shaken somewhat after Missouri. The team recovered nicely in the next games.
