No voodoo to our seasonal shooting decline late in the year. Nate continues to push the pace and we are always among the top teams in Kenpom in that category. And despite the talk of all our depth, Oats seldom goes beyond about 8 deep for any significant length of time. And even that metric is probably distorted by Q being a quasi-starter with the amount of minutes he gets coming off the bench. It’s simply a matter of tired legs. Hard to avoid with the grind that the conference schedule is. You can’t take a night off or a Vanderbilt or South Carolina will punch your ticket. I don’t have an answer, but the problem is pretty obvious and pervasive. Either starters are going to have to get more rest late in the season, or Nate is going to have to change his pace/philosophy or find a higher percentage strategy for late season/tournament games.

Have you noticed that the shooting seems to get even worse in the tournament when the games are closer together? Iona almost beat us 2 years ago because we couldn’t hit water from a boat. This year it was SDSU. We’re just running out of gas, plain and simple.

Bryan Hodgson on why all of Alabama's athletic programs have been successful

"It's the people. Everybody there works together and has the same goal - to win championships and represent the community in a positive way." (1/3)

"One of the biggest things I learned, that some of the past staffs [at Alabama] may have considered a downfall, was using the success, energy, and enthusiasm of the football program to carry over into the other sports." (2/3)

"I plan to do that here with Coach Jones and the Arkansas State football program. We want to create enthusiasm around the entire athletics department. Some basketball coaches come in and only focus on basketball. I look forward to working with him and picking his brain." (3/3)

Would be interesting to see if experts agreed with you. Shooting fell off a cliff with absolutely nobody maintaining or getting better down the stretch. Has to be a reason.

I wish JQ would have been greenlighted to shoot a few 4 footers after the first 3-4 blocked layups. And Sears, too.

I posted about that very issue towards the end of the season last year and got roundly downvoted. My understanding of basketball it's always been a given that the first thing that goes when you're fatigued is your outside shooting. Coach made two or three comments early in the season about keeping the guys fresh and I was hopeful that he actually was going to follow through on it. But in an interview late this season a reporter asked him about getting the starter some rest and he explains that the NBA did load management because they played so many games but since college teams only played about 30 or 35 at most he didn't believe load Management in college. I was afraid that was going to come back and bite us again. This is the fourth year that we've underachieved at the end of the season, mainly because of per shooting and being a step slow. We might as well get used to it until he finally sees the light.
