Don’t forget dribbling into traffic before inevitably losing the ball while falling down

Five-star Factors: 10 highly-touted freshmen who will need to produce in 2022-23

The 2022-23 season is only a few weeks away from kicking off and as usual another talented crop of freshmen has made their way to college campuses. If there is anything that we all love to do this time of year, it is dream of how great each new recruit is going to be and how they are going to help lead a winning team back to the top or change the fortunes of a struggling program.

That optimism is magnified when it comes to five-star prospects. Not only are they expected to be ready to contribute right away, but history has shown us that often times they don’t stick around long so the programs need to get as much out of them as they can in a short period of time.

However, not all five-stars are going to be playing the same roles or be faced with the same pressure to perform early. Some will join teams with experience where they can afford to get acclimated to the college game over the course of a few months. Others, well they had better be ready to rock from the moment the ball goes up in the air on opening night.

BRANDON MILLER, SF, ALABAMA

247Sports rank: 14

Why he’s so important: Alabama has to be one of the most intriguing teams headed into this season. Nate Oats squad has a preseason top 20 ranking and looks to have a nice balance of size, athleticism and guys who can get up and down. They have some experience returning but Jahvon Quinerly is the only returnee who averaged double digit points last season. He’ll score and big man Charles Bediako could make a huge leap in year two. Where the Tide could really use some help is with a reliable, make that explosive, wing scorer and Brandon Miller has all of the tools to be that dude for them.

A big wing who can burn the nets from deep, Miller has the tools to be a one and done player and the ability to make major noise while doing so. Because of his 6-foot-8 size, he can be used as a small ball four, or a big wing and he can create a lot of mismatches. There’s been some pretty positive buzz from NBA types about Miller early on and if he hits, Bama could be much more than an already good top 20 team.

I read elsewhere that season ticket holders got an email today giving them the option to buy seats for individual games before they go on sale to the general public. Did any of y’all get an email? I didn’t.

I didn’t receive an email about the scrimmage ticket holders were able to attend either. Not sure what’s going on. Pretty frustrating.

I got the scrimmage ticket offer too (originally scheduled for Oct 18 but moved on short notice to Oct 25 due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’).

The email for single game tix just arrived (4 hrs after the time stamp of 4:45 pm)

I’m a season ticket holder and didn’t receive this. I also didn’t receive one about the scrimmage. Weird.

I experienced the same a few months ago. In my case, emails from their new address (updates@news.rolltide.com) stopped cold turkey. No ticket offers, no Byrne Notice, no athletic department updates. Emails from the old address (like payment confirmations and correspondence with the ticket office) worked fine. Contacted UA and my service provider. Not much support other than to check the junk folder, add the new UA email address as a contact and to send an empty email to it. I emailed it a few times every week. Spontaneously started working again about a month ago. I have ‘stadium neighbors’ in varying sports who have reported the same thing. Mysterious and frustrating.

Yeah I’ve been in contact with them the past week and they said to add it to my contact list which I did, yet this still happens. I guess I’ll be emailing them tomorrow too, not that it’ll change anything.

It’s the little things like that that frustrate me about our basketball program. Email setup doesn’t work, social media is slacking, barely any info until last minute on the exhibition game, etc. But we’ve put off an arena for years now so why would I expect them to care about the small things.

For what it’s worth, it looks like slim pickings for the pre sale. Most every seat available is within 10 rows of the top. I’m pleasantly surprised the home games appear to be within a few thousand seats of being a sellout already, if this is truly the number of remaining seats available.

I experienced and understand the frustration. It’s not limited to basketball either. But something that doesn’t get a whole lot of publicity is Byrne has experienced a “Saban-like” raiding of the athletic department leadership team - losing 3 members so far this year. Lots of changes from the familiar faces that have worked there for years as well. Not sure if all this is contributing to what we’re experiencing but challenges seem to be mounting.
