Evaluation of team through 5 games…

Just thinking about the first half of the season. Looked awesome in 2 of the 5. Samford was a decent performance but lacked red zone TD’s. I do think the defense is improving but are definitely young and it’s showing. The offense is the area that has me dumbfounded. I notice first few games, UGA went up tempo, quick screens, then over the top. Also many more jet sweeps. Against Kent State and Mizzou, I saw very little consistency compared to the other games. Stetson and the offense looked lethargic and confused most of the game vs Mizzou. Was this due to the opposing teams scheme or what? Stetson also seemed to be much slower on his reads last night. Maybe Monken changes week to week? I honestly have no idea. With all that said, is this a championship caliber team? Or do you see a 1-3 losses on the schedule? They need to play much better going forward or the last half of the season could pose some problems imo.

Need a uniform gimmick for the weekend to insure the crowd and team have the amps at 11. Red out? Black out? Make the wine and cheese and aarp crowd stand the entire game etc....

I am glad we have UT at home. My gut tells me we make the SECCG and will need a win too make the playoffs. I also think we need to get lucky and not meet Bama there.

Thinking about this earlier I am wondering if we decided to go vanilla during this shitty stretch in a effort to not show much offense game tape.
However, the side effect that occurred was a mental block on how to play good while running basic schemes.
Maybe we diluted things down too much and the team is stuck in 2nd gear from it.

Special teams are excellent
Defense is good for a rebuilding year
Offense is disappointing. I thought this would be our strength this season.
Missouri's DL owned the LOS for 3 quarters and then finally got gassed in the 4th quarter due to lack of quality depth.
Bennett is not a good pocket passer when there is a consistent push up the middle.
He often throws high because he can't see over the LOS.
When facing a defense like Missouri's, Monken should have Bennett roll out to his right with the option to run or pass.
Bennett has the speed to force their DB's to come up to stop the run leaving passing opportunities to trailing receivers on that side.
When at team like Missouri is loading the box, you don't try to pound it up the middle.
We made some good adjustments and finally got some lead blocking for outside runs for good yardage.
Bottom line: focus your point of attack where the defense is weakest.

I highly doubt Monken gives a shite at what he shows. Maybe Mizzou laid the blueprint last night? They were disruptive in the passing lanes all night. They also hit every possible gap to limit the run game. I do think we’ll adjust to it as Monken doesn’t repeat the same mistakes. I trust he’ll scheme going forward and they’ll be back to frick teams up. I look to see Stetson with a ton of roll outs and quick screens/slants next week. The Oregon gameplan.

Missouri was beating our blockers, not over powering them. We changed schemes and that ended. The main difference was we had some turnovers, drops, misses, missed blocks, dropped ints, and penalties when we had them on 3rd and long that kept them in the game. Momentum is big in football and we gave it pretty much all to them, yet still won.

Definitely a game we would have lost towards the end of the Richt era and probably 2016 Kirby. Fromm also lost at home to a terrible USCe team
Forward!

We won that exact game under Kirby in 2016. IM catches pass as time expires from Eason.

Of course he does and all coaches go vanilla at times depending on who they play coming up. There is a mental aspect to the game and the team is clearly affected by the shitty schemes and play calling. Not even close to the creativity vs Oregon.
Oregon is better than Mizz, yet we beat them 46 pts not a come form behind with 4 min left to pull if it out

I think people massively understate the importance of a healthy kmac. He's by far our best RB and you could argue he's been our best pass catcher as well. Game 1 he's 100% and he looked terrific. Unguaradable really. The last several games he's been injured and although he's still in the game he's not nearly the same player. When your best RB, best WR, and best defensive player (likely top 5 draft pick) are all hurt, and you turn the ball over, it's not a receipe for success.

Obviously none of that helps but the OL confusion and flat out whiffs especially in the 1st half, is very concerning.
Watched the replay last night and it was worse than I thought.Got to get that corrected especially before our November stretch.

it was concerning, but I at least take solace in thinking/hoping that mizz just did something that we absolutley weren't ready or prepared for. If it was simply an issue of our OL sucking or not knowing what to do, you'd have ot think we would've seen thsi kind of performance against oregon or SC already.

Scheme played a part but our OT's were beat off the snap on several occasions.
Perhaps crowd noise played a part but their DL did a very good job of anticipating the snap count and our play calling.
We usually do a better job drawing a team off sides when they jump the count and I don't think we did it once Saturday nt.

That’s a very good point that leads me to my tempo questions regarding the offense Saturday night. I saw it as slow and lethargic. There was mass confusion on the O-Line and even getting calls in. I do know that the radio crew had some technical difficulties in the booth a few times. IDK if our staff experienced similar issues at times?

I don't know but that shite falls in searels lap.

IMO Mizzou had Stets snap count down pat in the first half. They were timing every gap perfectly and shooting through them.
Second half we were running up tempo and you could see they lost the count as every LB Mizzou had was giving away their assignment when Stet went hard count.
I may be completely wrong, but it definitely seemed as if they were just getting off the ball much faster than our OL.

Believe was said and looked true..they had us timed. Glad we found it out in that game.
We are good but not great. We can beat anybody but our potential to be beat is higher without the same level of defensive talent.
Some of our competition is improved. TN, MSU, FL are all better. KY is about the same.
Our schedule is playing out tougher than anticipated.

Fans always say things before the season starts, it rarely plays out that way once it gets going.
