Thoughts from Texas Game

Watching the guys on the sidelines showed me a few things I’d like to share:
1. It was hot as absolute hell in that place, insane heat on the field. We had fans and dudes running around with cool guns etc. seconds of relief I’d imagine.
2. The team never quit, they were holding each other accountable on the sidelines, pep talking each other, discussing plays. It was laser focus. There was no grab assing, or held heads, they wanted to win and knew nothing was going right.
3. The WR group when the 4th quarter started had a mini huddle with Holden in the middle, from what I could tell trying to get them organized and on the same page, lighting a fire.
4. The horns down stuff was immediately stopped by some of the team leaders to include Will Anderson. He was chewing their arse the second he got over to them.
5. Regardless of what you hear on the media we have a team that is playing for each other, this is a real team. We may have some gaps to fix but man this team seems special to me.
Just wanted you to know what I saw and the outlook from my side of things.

Appreciate that Boz!
We can all learn from this game.

So the players are holding each other accountable, who is holding the coaches?
Specifically the leaders?
Specifically the leaders?

Yes from what I saw the players have good leaders. Coaches could only be Saban but I’m sure whatever was done wasn’t in view of the cameras.

Great info and so good to hear.
Win and move on is an unbeatable strategy.
Leadership seems to be On point this year.
Hopefully it will lead us to reach our potential this season. That’s all we can ask for.
I stil believe our potential will lead us to a National Championship.

Thanks Boz.
The sky is falling chicken littles will always be present here, but the fact is is that we went into an extremely hostile environment in the late summer Austin heat, and grinded away a win. The intangibles of pulling out a win like that are huge.
Of course there is a lot of work to be done, but there always is. We have the dudes for sure. On to the next opponent.

Nice perspective. I do feel like “laser focus” is a bit exaggerated as play on the field seemed like anything but
I am in the (seemingly small) camp that believes that this is not a big deal and literally everything I witnessed is fixable. Dudes just need to put in the work, and coaches need to regroup on the way they attack opposing teams weaknesses

Thanks Boz, that’s what I like to hear. It also backs up what Saban has said about this team throughout camp.

What the hell was going on during that halftime show?

Who is holding Will accountable? I love the guy and his intensity, but I hope he’s embarrassed by his play Saturday. He had 3 stupid offsides penalties, an incredibly stupid personal foul, and wasn’t a factor on defense. He made one sack all day and that was because the RB assigned to block him fell down. I did see him get held several times and none were called by the RainMan refs but he’s gotta be more productive than that. We needed the leaders and dogs on defense to step up and make plays and maybe get a NOT but instead we looked like we were hanging on for dear life.

I really don’t understand why a big fuss is made about the horns down thing.

Outside of the obvious with all the penalties and lack of scheme, the most disturbing thing to me was all of the missed tackles. Seemed like we missed out on half a dozen sacks/TFL by diving at ankles or taking bad angles.

The second one was questionable and his sack at the end forced them to attempt a FG when they could’ve potentially converted and got more downs to run out the clock or even score a TD
It doesn’t redeem his uncharacteristically poor behavior but he got pressure several times. Penalties (some of his own especially) just negated a lot of what he was doing

Thank you, Boz. I just don't understand the constant melt of 8 guys on this board. I really don't. Now if we get our butts kicked by Arkansas, then I get it. But all of this crying is weak and pathetic

Pretty bad day by his usual standards for sure, but he did block that field goal. That ended up to be the margin of victory.

The two penalties on 31 where he lined up offsides, I don't recall them even showing a replay of. I'm assuming his helmet was past the los?

So you don't understand people being mad now, but you will understand people being mad if we lose to a better team than the one we barely scraped out a win against two days ago?
