Half the SEC towns don’t qualify due to size so it’s not really something to argue about: knoxville, Gainesville, nashville, Lexington, Athens, Baton Rouge, etc.

This. Half the conference is fairly large towns or cities.

We've got some nice colleges in small towns here in KY in areas that are scenic, ie Midway, but not much going on in a lot of them. A lot are in dry counties to boot. So REALLY nothing going on.

Ann Arbor and Athens are the same size- around 120K populations.

Zingermann's is good. Athens has a veritable brunch cornucopia to enjoy at your leisure.
