That was the defense of old last night. Utah State is a good offensive team with veterans across the board.....they had absolutely no shot. They had 2 first downs against the 1st team - a perfect throw and catch and a scramble on 3rd and 8 for barley 8 yards.

They couldn't get back to the LOS running the ball. They threw every pass within 3 seconds and still got their QB hit so consistently they took him out in the 2nd qtr because it wasn't worth injury. The rotation of the OLB on every series was awesome. Our 2 deep of DL are grown arse old men. HTT was unblocked and just flying at ball carriers.

I don't remember a single missed assignment or gap from the 1st unit the entire night. Our DBs attacked every throw and made every tackle in space. It was a masterpiece.

Did you notice the run fits last night on the RPO runs? OLB/Edge was simply eating the RB and the MLB was rotating around for contain on the QB. Thats new this year, and I really like it. It was really effective. The backups messed it up once, but the starters had it down.

Seems like Saban has a good problem on his hands at cornerback. Saw 4 guys early and often. I bet he labored over that depth chart that was released earlier in the week

Agreed. Great swarming defense. Excellent tackling. Zero big plays given up. I think only third down conversion was in the fourth quarter.

Utah St had a super senior offensive line and experienced QB.

I’m as excited about this defense as I’ve been in a long time.

For the first time in years they looked like they knew what they were doing. People will write it off because it was Utah State, but how many times was the defense looking at the sideline up until half a second before the ball was snapped last night? I don't recall seeing it once.

The Fire Pete Golding Crowd got the night off. Perhaps we see them again this Saturday.

Our defense is going to be good this year, last night's opponent notwithstanding. Last night there were very few blown assignments by the first string defense. Typically in games like that you'd see our secondary blow a coverage here and there but the team we were playing lacked the talent to exploit it. Last night, I counted maybe one or two missed assignments in the back end when our first team defense was in the game. They were very disciplined yesterday evening.

The number of times they just threw in the towel on 3rd and long tells you all you need to know. They wanted no part of 15 and 31.

Yes, they ran it straight into the tackles on every third and long.

Which was kind of frustrating because I never got to see 31 and 15 pin their ears back and eat. But there’s always next week!

NO

Idk who it was but someone half assed a tackle attempt on a play towards the top of the screen(to the offenses right) and allowed a 4 yard gain to become a 12 yard gain. Had the angle to just grab the ball carrier and fall to the ground for an easy tackle and instead pulled up to avoid contact.

As you can see, I’m still annoyed by it

Defense was decent last night. Saw lot of improvements that we didn't see.

We got long way to go on 4th downs situation.

Temper expectations. I was impressed but I'm not ready to say that yet. Lot of new wrinkles and I was pleased to see adjustments. No more delayed blitzes, etc. But thay could change next week.

Defining performance from the game last night has nothing to do with expectations moving forward. The 1st team played a nearly perfect night of defense.

I was very impressed with the defensive performance last night. Seems like those type of teams can usually do a decent job of “lucking up” and move the ball against us.

Yes it does because for some fans, they think this is the defense that should play like this every week.

1st team did well. 2nd team was solid. Third team was okay.

It's not 2011 anymore so that's silly, but certainly the truth regarding some people who expect shutouts every weekend.

I agree 100%

The defense was really good yesterday and I can't wait for this matchup with Texas.

Moody and HT can really run!! They looked faster or I could just be seeing things lol
