Paperwasp, George, or some connected bama fan, this probably should be posted on your team boards, which obviously I don’t have access too but thought I would put here for her.
The Wilson’s have been friends of mine for 30 years. She died Wednesday at their beach house in Gulf Shores. I think they still have a place in t-town for games but lived in Mississippi.
From her Obituary:
Anyone who knew her, knew her love for The University of Alabama and The Crimson Tide will forever be unrivaled. Her devotion to the team began early and continued throughout her life. The elephant trumpet you hear at the games? Ann was the person who sought out a recording of it in the 60s from a library and brought it to the school as a suggestion that became a tradition. She was instrumental in the marking of The Mound on the Quadrangle as a historical site to protect it for future generations. She traveled to the games to cheer on the team with her sister Mickie as long as she could attend them.
She was in the band, a bunch of student activities, a friend of the Bear, and was responsible for your elephant roar tradition among other things.
Sucks getting old, you lose someone every other week it seems.

Ann would approve of that response, sorry I changed it to connected, which is what I really meant

She was born to James Clay Smith and Mary Elizabeth Veitch Smith. She attended Bessemer public schools.
By any chance was she related to Bill Veitch (R) who ran for District Attorney in Bessemer?

Clicked on the link with Obituary pictures. Looked like a wonderful woman. Looks like she lived a great life with many kids and grand kids. I'm sure she will be missed by many. We should all be so lucky to have that when we die. I say all these things with her only negative quality being she was a crimson tide fan

Wasp, I think so but not positive on that. I knew Bob and Anne from Mississippi. She was definitely his better half, lol. I didn’t even know she was rapid bama fans until years later as Bob was big Ole Miss guy and from the delta. Bob is huge gun nut and owned a hunting lodge l, Dunns Outdoors etc at one time.
One of my favorite Bob Wilson stories is he was in San Diego California and bought some rare antique gun from someone place and was having lunch at the Coronado, (think Ritz Carlton ) and showed the 1850s pistol to causally to his paralegal and it was sticking out of this bag as they ate. He has a dealer license etc. Totally legal.
When of course some Karen calls the police and Kelly tells how all the sudden cops come in from everywhere and pounce upon them, on horseback etc. He owned Dunns at the time and one of the cops was a customer so it ended ok but the story as Kelly would tell it was side splitting funny. Bob always forget the pistol in his briefcase at the airport etc.

Around here we pronounce it like "ride-outs."

That's awesome. Those Mississippi (and delta) people are some good folks.
So sorry for your loss, friend.
My prayers to their family and to yours.

When you mature and gain a conscience, you'll regret mistakes like this.
