They are the Pioneers, first college west of the Allegheny Mountains chartered by VA Governor Thomas Jefferson in 1780.

This is the deadliest animal on the planet, but I don't think it would fly as a mascot.

The spider in the pic is not a Tarantula, it is a Funnel Web spider and the most lethal spider on Earth. If that is not bad enough, it is extremely aggressive and will attack anything in its perceived territory. To make matters even worse it can jump as high as 2 to 3 feet when attacking and its fangs are long enough to pierce most things humans wear on their body.
