What's our elite 8 for coaches firing or quitting?
Obviously, Nolan, Nutt, and Petrino are in there. Sutton crawling to Kentucky should be.
Who else? Dana Altman and his 1 day? Holtz was before my time so I don't remember why he left.

Pretty sure if his britches fell down, that a hatchet wound would be seen.

Nutt leaving did not break my heart.

Gary Blair. He had built up a very solid Arkansas program, got a mildly better offer from A&M, went to the AD with it... and they basically asked if he needed help packing up his office. Arkansas women's basketball went in the crapper for a decade or so.
Holtz and Hatfield both were very successful at Arkansas and Broyles eventually drove them away. Hugo Bezdek eventually left because Arkansas wouldn't join a conference.

Hatfield
Hatfield was fortunate the internet didn’t exist like it is now. Fans were pretty burned out with the flexbone and he wasn’t interested in changing that so he left.
There was a joke that Hatfield was late everywhere he went because he wouldn’t pass.
He might have received the Nutt treatment.

I don't know if Hatfield would have received the Nutt treatment, because unlike Nutt, he was actually a good coach who kept us relevant. He shouldn't have been hired over Jimmy Johnson, and seeing the success Johnson had at Miami makes it easy to be bitter, but Hatfield had us ranked in the top 15 four of his six seasons here. Most of the time he was in the top ten going into bowl season, but his 1–5 bowl record was a glaring weakness.
I don't think he would have been successful in the SEC. I think by '93 or '94 he would have been replaced, but not with the vitriol of Nutt's replacing. Nutt was both an insincere goober, AND he couldn't win ten games to save his life.

The SWC was easier to navigate for sure and the flexbone had it’s limitations especially against strong OOC teams. I just remember folks complaining about it a lot.
Nutt won 10 games in 2006.

Jimmy Johnson is an outlaw coach who would have put Arkansas on major probation. Frank would not have let him go wild at Arkansas like he did at Miami. Johnson was the one who started the thuggish culture at Miami that almost led to being done away with for good.

I remember vividly him winning the ten in '06. That was the one did he manage to do it.
All I'm saying is 15 years after he was sent packing, everyone still harbors a dislike for Nutt (some even hate him still). I don't really meet anyone who has a strong dislike of Hatfield anymore.

I liked both coaches and enjoyed the great games I got to watch and was aggravated at the losses. Both brought us great moments and misery.
The hatred for Nutt is pathetic and the circus a portion of our fan displayed was and will always be an embarrassment to our program. It was pathetic.
The hell with those that ramrodded that childish shite.

Hatfield was a better coach and better individual than Nutt. I seriously doubt his ending would be the same as Nutt as he didn't try to add fuel to the fire.

Maybe Hatfield’s family wouldn’t have been attacked and banners not flown and all that stupid shite, but he was lucky to not find it.
Hogvllie shite almost destroyed the fanbase, ignorant twits…

Did Nutt and his family get physically attacked? I don't remember anyone getting arrested and charged with a crime. If a coach if upset about what a banner says about that individual then that person doesn't need to coach big boy football. I seriously doubt Nutt cared what a banner says about him.
Hatfield didn't say or do anything that would have provoked the fans. He didn't stay long enough and drag it out like Nutt did. Some fans may not have liked Hatfield as a coach but as a person, fans had positive things to say about him including my interactions with him.
Hogville had zero to do with Nutt leaving Arkansas. That was his decision and his decision only.

there are so many things to respond to in your post.
1. No, no physical attacks... But plenty of innuendo, threats, accusations, several happened to be true.
2. Agree, Nutt shouldn't have coached big boy football..
3. Ohhh Yes, Hogville put together $$$ to do anything possible to get rid of Nutt... FOI's, Full page ads in the paper, radio advertising, it was a continuous bombardment of him, his family, his staff... Even Danny's cancer was brought up.
4. Hatfield is an incredible man period. Nutt, yeah... no comparison!

Some of those allegations were with player harassment and that included an email that was sent and forwarded to different people. We know who that is. I think the FOI was a response to that and trying to dig for dirt on Nutt. What was found out though is that Nutt had an affair with you know who, that sounds a little scandalous but nothing came from that.
I do remember some members from Hogville did do that but Nutt is his worst enemy and that is his mouth. Open mouth, insert foot. I have never known a coach from all sports at Arkansas as antagonizing as Nutt was. He would spar with the fans such as I called that play Chuck and my contract says 2012. That just keeps stirring the pot and he just makes it hard on himself.
If Nutt would have won an SEC title in either 06 and 07, kept his mouth shut then his stay would be longer. Then once he was gone for good then hog fans would think of him more positively.

Spot on.
Little Rock people love Nutt. Some in rural areas around the state aren't sure what their opinion is/was supposed to be.
the childish shite came straight out of Springdale and a certain private school there, and egomaniac idiots like Wally Hall and Mike Irwin, and the idiot Hogville brass

Watching Bert and BLJ tonight against Indiana. Man Bert sucks as a coach. Just full on stupidity. I’m convinced his assistants carried him those first few years until they all left.

Nutt and the drama that came with it was the result of him staying too long and it began wearing the fans down. So it was expected that some crazy fans would show up.
It is shame because Nutt didn't coach up to his full potential. He made excuses or tried to find them. If he was a little more humble and hired an OC with a QB coach then he would be a category of a good coach. I don't get that same feeling from Sam because he doesn't seem to avoid a challenge and seems to be trying at his best of his abilities.
