Cardwell and Kessler need minutes together to win tourny

I don’t agree with Kessler and Cardwell subbing each other out 100%. Kessler is an amazing player but he doesn’t always play like a big front Court player. So the reality is there’s minutes we have almost no one playing down low on offense. I’d love to see some big guy sets with Kessler, Cardwell, and Smith, Jr. dominate the paint, especially if no guards have a hot hand.
If our guards aren’t hot and the other team has big guards playing well, I see the bigs lineup as a means to a win. Pound it low and dominate the paint. It’s not sexy, but I don’t see anyone stopping it.

“Doesn’t always play like a big front court player”
Currently owns auburn history books for single season blocks and has been dominate as of late.

On defense, yeah he’s usually there.
But our offense dies, most do. You gotta have something to lean back on when shots aren’t falling. Kessler probably spends more time outside of the arc as any big guy in the country.
Every single game Auburn has lost we’ve had huge stretches of bad offensive performance which is mostly poor shot selection and shooting. That’s generally helped by feeding it to big front court players.
ETA: I’m not talking significant minutes, let’s get 5-10 mins a game. 3 guys 6’10 or bigger would be a significant issue for almost any team to deal with.

I’ve never disagreed with one poster more than you when it comes to basketball. This isn’t the 90’s. Our offense would be atrocious with both of them on the court and we would get cooked from 3 on defense.

When has Cardwell or Kessler for that matter done anything in the post that hasn’t been created by someone else?

I don't think you've ever watched basketball.

Kessler and Jabari can’t guard the 3? Lol, ok.
Kessler plays around the arc all game as it is.
So your argument is that our 5’11 guards are better against 6’6 shooting guards then Kessler and Jabari? Interesting
I’ll take some risk against the 3, to pound the paint.
Not everyone has to win playing the ‘hip’ offense or defense. Take UVA in 2019 and I could go on and on.
Again, I’m not talking significant minutes. They just NEVER okay together.

This is almost as silly as saying all you need at WR coach is a good recruiter because the coaching doesn’t matter.

I forgot, Auburn has apparently tons of winning basketball experience to go off of?

I mean give me Bama 2019-2020 and you are exactly right…

to pound the paint.
So we are going to pound the paint by clogging it with two 5’s, only one is capable of making a shot other than a dunk? Let’s throw stretch in there while we are at it and let Flanny run the point while we are at it.
I get you want basketball to be what it was a few decades ago, but that game is dead and for a reason. Those teams get run out of the gym now.

You have to play with your strengths. Our guards are small, we have some damn good talent in the front court.
I’m saying, we should at least try to throw some teams off and dominate low.
Everything works in circles. There’s nothing at all wrong with winning with bigs it works.
If our guards aren’t playing great or shooting great, I absolutely think we should try pounding the paint.

I think if you have two really skilled bigs it could work so I’m not clowning your idea. Just wouldn’t work with these two

Where are these great post scorers that we have besides Jabari? It’s even worse for them when you clog the paint with another one.

Clog the paint? Shite, Kessler acts like he’s scared of the paint some games on offense.
I’d love to see them prove they clog the paint.
By the way everyone, you know who else doesn’t like a bunch of bigs? Almost everyone else. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a strength of Auburns in certain scenarios.
Fine, I’ll give everyone this, explain why just subbing them out for each other makes sense when Cardwell and Kessler’s games are dissimilar? CArdwell is a more traditional center and Kessler a power forward. It’s not like im recommending putting in 3 centers.

You do realize they can’t play 40 mins a game each, right?
Posted on 2/23/22 at 9:44 pm to baldona
It makes sense because of how they defend AND because of the guys around them on offense AND because of what we do on offense

Quick look on ESPN for avg mins and Kessler is 25 and Cardwell is 11. So yeah, that’s not quite an issue…
Maybe I miss it, I have 3 kids and don’t watch every min of every game, but I can’t recall ever seeing the 3 of them play together at all. All I’m saying.
