Very few swimming pools in Missouri?

I casually follow the non-rev sports and, while reading through the ladies swim/dive team roster, was surprised at the makeup.
Of the 30 ladies, one...just one...is from Missouri (Columbia). 5 are from Illinois, 4 from Colorado, 3 from Minnesota, 2 from Ames Iowa, 2 Canadians, and one each from Hungary and Brazil. The rest are from states from South Dakota to Florida.
No point to this post, just find it puzzling why Missouri is so poorly represented in the "home school."
ETA: 3 of the 28 on the men's team are Missourians.

It is odd because competitive swimming is very big in KC metro and most of Missouri I am familiar with. Most towns greater than 1,000 people with a public pool have competitive teams.

Swim isn’t a big club sport in St. Louis. And once you get outside the exurbs, it’s non-existent.

One guy on the swim team in high school I was on, he went to a California school on scholarship for swimming.
So it could be that the best ones go elsewhere.
If I could swim my laps in an outdoor pool with fresh air and sunlight, instead of being in a natatorium where the air gets so humid and chlorinated, I wouldn't have to think twice about that.

I've never heard of anything like this and I live in the rural. Do you mean schools over 1,000 people? And even then I still haven't heard of it.

No. I mean towns. Unless something changed recently, several towns in SW and W MO with populations under 10k had public pools and competitive swim teams. Pretty much all the way up I49 to KC. Most of the competitions were in KC, STL, Springfield, etc.

Where are those top talents from Missouri HS been going to? That is what I am talking about!
Drinkwitz is the first one been getting it done but still got ways to go! Wrestling doesn't count! All other sports weren't able to get top Missouri HS talents for so long. Just now Drinkwitz got started picking up some but still lacking to lock down all key talents. That is why it is critical for Drinkwitz to get the football team to do well this year.

Thanks, Lefty. That explains why there are few Missouri kids on the swim team.
Once there is a good program going on and that will draw interest from Missouri HS players will want to be part of the new culture. It is going to take time to get the roster loaded up with 5*, 4*, and some good 3* players. I remember when I was a kid, I used to go swimming at the University City HS inside swimming pool during the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons. Then Summer at Heman Park that have outdoor swimming pool. Those were the good old days.

It makes it harder for smaller schools to field a competitive team when they have to chose between sports because of how they overlap. Webb City has had football players that are swimmers that only club swim because of how the two sports overlap.
Missouri only has 2 classes for swimmers(1A and 2A). It makes it really hard to have schools like Lamar to have enough athletes to play football and swim and be in competitive in the same class as Raytown, Kearney, Glendale, Parkway Central etc… Small schools will have competitive swimmers, but not enough good swimmers to have competitive teams like Monett, Rogersville, Nevada.
Swimming in Missouri would be better and more competitive if it wasn’t at the same time as football, VB, and CC. It’s hard to put a summer sport into a school year that consists of fall, winter, and spring.

Swimming was the winter sport when I went to school; water polo in the fall.

I didn't realize there was that much public school swimming. Everything I knew about in SW MO was club swimming.
