All of this really highlights how little the average fanbase knows about coaching football

From Bama fans and their Fax campaign to pressure our AD into hiring Mike DuBose because he was one of “Bear’s boys…” which resulted in the darkest decade in Bama sports history.

Tennessee fans torpedoing the hire of Greg Schiano because they convinced themselves that Jon Gruden was just aching to be the UT coach and their administration was too stupid to know it. This solidified generation long bottom dweller status.

And now Auburn fans, who were so disappointed in the hiring of Kevin Steele as opposed to a big name coach on every insider’s secret list, that they created the #StopTheSteele social media campaign, the depth of which has only been rivaled by the basketball memes. This resulted in possibly the worst dumpster fire in the SEC over the last decade. Allegations of Petrino style infidelity, the mistreatment of players, and now claims of blatant racism.

We just don’t know how to get out of our own way.

I just don’t get Auburn fans clamoring to keep the guy when it’s clear his recruiting is going to bring him under eventually, and that’s ignoring his ability to build relationships with at least a chunk of his players and staff members. It was a mistake to hire him, let’s move on.

To be fair, the VOL fan base did their job. It’s not our fault Fulmer fricked it up and picked Pruitt over Mel Tucker.

Auburn fans still do not want Steele. Actually Harsin has gotten more support today since he was hired.

Yep. Apparently having your own daughter pumped out by old rich men want won't get you more than 1 year of employment.

Also, I think coaches get way too much of the blame when a team is bad and way too much of the credit when a team is good.

Case in point, Joe Brady with 2019 LSU. The dude was looked upon as some kind of offensive genius because he happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Then he couldn't even make it two years as an NFL OC, the other end of the spectrum, he was blamed WAY TOO MUCH for the Panthers being bad.

I think there are very few cases when it's just painfully obvious that it's time for a coach to go, Ed Orgeron was a good example of that.

I loathe this reasoning like it’s childhood cancer. Okay, maybe not that bad but I still hate the hell out of it. “He’s someone that will get it.” If it’s Bama football, UK basketball, etc., odds are the right names get it. There are guys who are simply not cut out for it like Gillespie in Kentucky’s case, but you can’t limit yourself to some shortlist of names just because they’ll “get it.”
