Define fast food restaurants? That definition has been expanded over the years. But Alabama also has one of the best restaurants and chefs in the country, so I think it is a good balance.

Milo’s and Jack’s puts them over the top.

Birmingham has the best local fast food in the country fwiw.
Also these lists usually include places like Chipotle and Applebee's to be fast food- if that's the case then meat-and-threes and BBQ places are probably considered fast food so not surprising at all

Damn.
Shocked to see my native Mississippi near the bottom.
I guess I should be used to it.

Gen Z is obsessed with obscure fast food right now- lines for Cane's in Columbus are circling the building twice, same for Popeye's in Pittsburgh. Culver's also doing well and has become a social media trend
Milo's should really look to expand to other areas, same for Zaxby's. Cane's hasn't entered Pittsburgh market yet... Zaxby's really hurting themselves sitting on the sidelines

Southern National - Downtown Mobile - Chef Duane Nutter
Hot and Hot Fish Club - Southside Birmingham - Chris Hastings
Odette - Florence - Chef Josh Quick and some dude from Chile
Acre - Auburn - David Bancroft
Highlands Bar and Grill - Southside Birmingham
Fisher's Upstairs - Orange Beach Marina - Bill Briand
Johnny's Restaurant - Chef Timothy Hontzas - Homewood
Been to all except Johnny's and Fisher's Upstairs but they are on my list.
and others of note -
Big Bob Gibsons BBQ (coming up on 100 years - this was the restaurant that I grew up with in Decatur)
Strickland BBQ Florence
All Steak Cullman
and MY kitchen where I was just commissioned to cook my Texas No Bean chili
