The Vikings have requested to interview 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans for HC vacancy

Demeco will be an NFL HC soon. Of course he's gonna be on the short list of coaches to replace Saban someday.

He wasn't very athletic but he was one of the greatest MLBs, period. Top 5 MLB/ILB in Bama history.

Very very smart LB. One of my favorites. Wasn’t the most athletic, but the damn guy was there on every play and was our leader, I wish him the best, and I hope that he learns enough to one day lead us

Demeco was like Shaun Dion Hamilton. They always seemed to know where the ball was going so they got the the ball faster than guys with more speed and athleticism. Sometimes it was like they got the play call before the ball was snapped.

There was a time not too long ago that Demeco, Shaun Alexander, Chris Samuels and Cornelius Griffin were all we had carrying the Bama banner in the NFL...and all were very good.

Demeco was a high IQ player. His work ethic and character were a coach's dream. He seems to be the same kind of coach. Easily of my top 5 Bama players of the past 20 years.

They're going to hire him after just one year as a DC and only 5 years as a coach of any kind? Is that typical for the NFL? I hope he isn't getting in over his head.

Yes. The NFL is started to trend really young with HCs. It's very likely that both Byron Leftwich and Kellen Moore will become HCs in the immediate future, and probably no later than next offseason. Leftwich is 42, Moore is only 33, and they have like 9 combined years of coaching experience.

That seems so weird to me, but congrats to Demeco!

I was at the Arkansas game In 03 or 04 where Demeco had like 30 tackles.

Terrible seats, 3rd row behind Arkansas bench. Had to watch the video board the whole game(before we had one in every corner) because you couldn’t see over the Arkansas players on the sidelines. Blew a 31-10 lead and lost in OT…..overall worst Game experience I’ve had.

NFL coaching is so much about building relationships with the players these days and FOs perceive coaches who are young enough to be the siblings of many of those players as being able to more effectively build relationships with them. Retreads are definitely still a thing (it's likely that two of them are headed for a re-match in the Super Bowl) but it's going to become less and less prevalent going forward. And those retreads are going to all be dudes like Reid and Arians who have long been considered players coaches.
