Shortage of good OL outside of Bama and Georgia.

Just my amateur opinion but there seems to be a shortage of good OL outside the big 2. Do you guys think Alabama and Georgia recruiting cannibalized the SEC to a degree. Maybe on the DL too to a certain degree. Those are the two hardest positions to recruit. Now with A&M coming on strong are we going to see an even bigger difference between the have’s and have not’s in the conference?

I think so, but it's also said that OL is the hardest to grade in high school, many 3* champs and 5* busts on OL.
I heard a Michael McDonald song at a bar this afternoon. "What a Fool Believes"

Kenny Loggins co-wrote that masterpiece, he also deserves credit. If you were drinking at Patches lounge then I’m the one who played it.

Bama & Georgia have been getting whoever they want for years. There are less very athletic 6'6 325 pound people than very athletic 6' 190 pound people. So getting the scarce resource is more valuable. But they are getting elite players at all positions. Just less big boys to go around.

OL is weird. You can have a lot of great pieces but they don't always go together. And the you have situations where coaches have to decide if they play X then they have to play Y and then A then has to play out of position and B who is the best right guard has to sit because Y is no good with him.
DL is less that way but I think there are simply fewer really good DL right now. That seems to go in cycles though. One year you'll see a lot of good OL throughout the conference and then the next a lot of DL.

Actually the team that recruits the MAC the hardest for OL will have a leg up. They have OL spilling over.

We actually had oline issues all year. Cost us the aTm game and should've cost us the Iron Bowl.

Viceman,
I’m stunned Auburn held back back as long as they did. There could have been injury issues though.

Amazing how many NFL OL they produce or at least used to

RD,
I think there are a lot of great NFL potential players who are don’t growing at all by 18-19 so they get missed by recruiters. That’s why half the NFL are players who weren’t 4-5 stars.

Kentucky and A&M had as many All SEC OL on the 1st/2nd teams as Georgia and more than Bama.
OL is probably the biggest crap shoot in recruiting. That or QB

I mean there's a lot more 3 stars out there than 4 and 5 stars and your odds of making an NFL roster are still much higher for a blue chip.
But OL does seem like it's the hardest to evaluate. Not a bad idea to look for MAC OL in the portal though.

We have some talent, but our offensive line is going downhill since the pit Boss left.

I disagree. We are young. But the depth on OL is awesome at UGA. Im not sure what the transfer portal takes. But UGA is looking great on the OL for 2022.
We played the NCG with RsFr at left tackle, Sophomore at C, and sophomore at RT. We had our starting RG (sophomore) get hurt on the 3rd offensive play of the season.
Pittboss was great. But the OL never played to their potential (ridiculous amount of injuries played into that)
