It’s not rocket science, but I got my first whiff of Cuonzo’s departure from sauces.

Separate from the sauces and speculatively:

That’s a pretty specific gift.

Naming the HC position after a donor? Is that common? Never heard of that and it seems extremely meaningless

endowments can't be used for buyouts.

They can be used to be the salary of the coaching staff freeing up more money for buyouts though

Sherman set the way-back machine. Stormin' Norman is told he's now the "Dorothy D. and Charles E. Whitten, Jr. Men's Basketball Head Coach."

The buyout is only half the problem.

While the buyout is pricey, we will have to make a splashy hire most likely. This can help the hiring part.

lets hope so but that size endowment isn't going to create any significant annual revenue.

It would pay for a whole assistant coach by itself.

Which is not significant.

Sure it is.

I’m anxiously awaiting the notsince98 Endowment.

Not me, they get my check (or more accurately, my companies tax deductible, nonprofit contribution check) every October. But I'm willing to ink out another to contribute to the CM buyout fund.

I don’t expect this to happen but hypothetically if he wins 9 in conference does that save his job?

I honestly think it would. I think if he finished .500 in conference, he would come back.

This AD loves CM. I'd think anything more than 2 conference wins he is likely to come back. I just have no hope this AD will make the move given 5 years of data showing he can't get it done here.

Our AD has a history of hiring coaches worse than Martin, I think this is something people seem to forget.

I'm not big on keeping him, as I think he's a bottom third coach. But I don't see the upside in firing him before his contract runs out.

Also I bet he sweet talks the AD into thinking about the youth on the team, and telling her how good they will be.

Brazile has a chance to very good, and Shaw may turn out to be a very good recruit.

But the rest of the underclassmen, yikes.

Wilmore - D2 player
Degray - should be your 6-7th man
Kaleb - Unclear about his future, but doesn't look good
Yaya - may not be able to contribute till junior year
Durugordon - Unclear
Anton - way too small, still 2 years from contribution.

And lets address Martins evaluation of transfers :

Davis, not bad. Should be first off a bench on a decent team.

Coleman, horrible. Martin was fooled by his stats in weak comp.

Gordon, solid on D, roll player, maybe 2nd or 3rd off the bench.

Unfortunately all three start. Martin did awful in the portal too.
