Watched the game again today. I still get pumped watching that 4th quarter.

It was satisfying all the way through the very last play. Buried them, maybe for a while.

It is rare to see a Saban team get physically mauled at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball like the Dawgs did to them in the second half. Taking Ericson out, moving Salyer to RG and putting Brod Jones in at LT made a massive difference.

it made all the difference. I like warren but he clearly was the weakest link by far on that line. I can't fault luke TOO hard, since putting a freshman in at LT in that setting isn't ideal either, I'm just glad it all worked out in the end.
With that said, hopefully warren is not starting this year at any point unless we have injuries or are way ahead.

That line gave just enough protection to Stet to allow him to throw those game winning Tds in the 4th quarter. Those guys def deserve credit for helping Stet win MVP of the game in the Natty.

Only difference is Kirby's was calculated and strategic, whereas saban's was absolute back against the wall desperation.
It always perplexes me when people say saban was some genius or brilliant mastermind pulling hurts for tua. He *literally* did not have a choice and it was the only and final bullet left in his gun. Hurts was pretty lousy down the stretch anyway and was not a good passer all year, and in the national title game led the team to a grand total of ZERO points. YOu can't leave a bad QB in the game that has scored you no points in a half. You have to do truly anythign else, even if it means putting in a TFr with limited snaps.
And in 2018 during the reversal of that again there was no choice since Tua's ankle got fricked. Again, no choice.

2018 actually was the smart choice. We had arguably the 2nd best pass defense in the SEC. But we allowed 10 rushing TDs to QBs that year. We didnt have the linebacker play (adjusting to no Roquan) for Hurts in 2018.
I see media and posters moan about a fake punt on 4th down in the SECCG. But a mobile QB like Hurts in a 2 minute drill against our linebackers? Give Bama the ball and we lose. Nothing was more obvious to me.
The only question was to run a fake or keep our offense on the field for the 4th down try.

I think you misunderstood. We fricked tua's ankle and he couldn't play. They had to put hurts in, it wasn't a decision for saban to make it was literally what had to be done

it was brilliant. Aboslutley one of the best calls I've ever seen, it was just executed as poorly as it could've been. In multiple ways.

It was idiotic because Fields had never been on the punt team. Saban & the Bama coaches aren't idiots. Alabama has a massive staff watching every play.

I disagree.
It was the 2 most talented UGA players. Fields throwing to Swift with a linebacker in coverage.
Offensive coordinators love that matchup. Defensive coordinators dread that matchup.
The failure was in execution. You can blame the coaching. You can blame the player with the ball in his hands (throwing the ball in that situation often gets a PI).

The ball was supposed to be snapped quickly before Alabama adjusted. Swift running a slot fade against a punt team gunner is a great matchup.

funny you say that, considering they didn't change their punt safe lineup in 6 years. We ran the exact same play against them in 2012 for a big gain and a 1st down. And despite being non-idiots and despite having an army of analysts watching every play, they didn't change a single thing about how they defend in that particular situation. So kirby calls the same play, and we have the same look, and if it was executed correctly it's a 1st down and we run down the clock and win and head to the playoffs as SEC champs and peopel are talking abotu it as one of the best calls of all time.
Again the call itself was genius. The execution was horrendous. For starters we inexplicably waited an eternity to snap the ball, by which time bama had already sniffed it out and adjusted. It was doomed at that point. And I do agree Fields shouldnt' have been there considering that's not where he would normally be, don't know why we did that either. If we put a regular dude like a backup TE there (I think it was Lynch in 2012) and snap it immediatley we're heros.
