How does Alabama score on Georgia?

Listening to Rick Neuheisal this morning. He said Alabama wins if they score early and get ahead, because Georgia’s offense isn’t built to play catch up. If it’s a shoot out, Alabama scores 30+, can Bennett keep up?
Alabama’s lowest scoring games were 20 vs LSU and 24 @ Auburn in OT and Cincy 27.
Just curious what the board thinks were the issues in those games? Have the issues been fixed? How does UGA defense/scheme compare?
Rick also said, he thought UGA defense looked gassed and out of shape in the championship game, due to not playing complete games. I said in another thread, UGA defenders were tapping out throughout the Orange Bowl.
I never see ‘Bama defenders tap out due to fatigue. Can’t even get Saban to call a time out to give them a blow. So is part of the offensive strategy up tempo?
Roll Tide!!

I don't think there was an offensive issue in the Cincinnati game; we ran the ball due to their defensive alignment and their outstanding CBs. That shortened the game and limited our scoring opportunities.
Biggest issue will be picking up blitzes / keeping pressure off Bryce. If we can do that, we'll win.

Interesting point about Georgia getting tired. I suspect in this coming game, they will blitz Bryce much more because he picked them apart in SEC championship. Big question is whether our revamped offensive line can protect him. No doubt Seth McGloughlin at center made a big difference with putting Owens back at right tackle. Latham was good in the last game too.

same way we did in SEC championship. Attack the secondary, go fast and get that dline tired. If they play man to man, have Bryce plan to take off and slide if he sees any green ahead of him.

I didn't really pay attention to this game much, was it just the DL guys or everyone? It seemed like guys like Dean were out there a lot, but when you focus on having as much beef as Georgia does up front you gotta rotate guys on the DL and I don't think its really any indication of anything.
Phil Mathis is built like a lot of their DL and doesn't seem to get gassed a lot though, to kind of counter my own point.

Pretty easily, based on the last couple meetings.

up tempo, slants (be prepared to take a hit though), tight ends releasing down the middle of the field (most blitzes will come up the middle or the right side of our O line), a few BY draws (slide, do not take hits), stay ahead of the sticks (3rd and manageable situations), up tempo some more (no subs), PICK UP THEIR BLITZERS!!!

Hopefully Chris Owens is good to go because he actually played pretty well against UGA the first time. I think that JC Latham can hold his own physically. It's just the experience and does he know all of his assignments that worries me. He's a freak of a lineman.

quote:He went out on a limb there. UGA jumped up 10-0 in the SECC game. We then went on a 17-0 scoring run. They are definitely not geared for catching up but experience has shown UGA can jump on us and still not win.
He said Alabama wins if they score early and get ahead, because Georgia’s offense isn’t built to play catch up.
quote:Bennett just had one of the best games of his career. 313 yards and 3 tds. That's after 340 and 3 tds against Bama. Those are his ONLY 300+ yard games this year and he's crossed 3 tds in 5 out of 13 games. I'd say it's unlikely. Given his SECC performance and the pressure it is more likely he will turn the ball over if they get behind.
If it’s a shoot out, Alabama scores 30+, can Bennett keep up?
Just for comparison, Bryce has thrown for 300+ nine times this season. He's thrown for fewer than 3 tds only four times. That's just damn impressive.
quote:The Oline and a lack of consistent hot read options. Either Bryce would not or could not find a safety valve.
Just curious what the board thinks were the issues in those games?
quote:Probably not fixed given the Cincy game (unless we just held back), but UGA refused to sell out on pressuring Bryce until the second half. I expect them to crank it up early this time. We will find out if we are ready for it. Saban hinted as much in an interview after UGA finished off Michigan.
Have the issues been fixed? How does UGA defense/scheme compare?
quote:It's possible. I recall a certain year where we were scoring so much, even on D, that we seemed out of shape at the end of the year.
he thought UGA defense looked gassed and out of shape in the championship game
That being said, we ran hurry up and prevented their D from substituting. Jordan Davis looked like he was going to fall over dead. It was brilliant and aided by our ability to extend drives.
quote:That is an interesting observation. I know we rotate lineman when the offense subs but outside of injuries or garbage time I don't recall us subbing much.
I never see ‘Bama defenders tap out due to fatigue.

It was the big guys up front and maybe a LB or two. It just struck me that I didn’t recall ever seeing an Alabama player take themselves out of a game due to fatigue. My thought is Saban probably believes you better be prepared for that and I’m not bailing you out in the middle of the 4th quarter.

The key to the game is the opposite- How does Georgia score on Alabama ?
The numero uno matchup is their offense vs our Defense.
Georgia is less diverse than Bama. It will be harder for them to do anything out of the norm- they are who they are. I think this favors Bama a great deal. They are easier to game plan for.
The great neutralizer for our defense is our pass rush. It is elite. A pass rush like Bamas can cause so many problems for the opposing offense. I think we can force them to play the style game we want them to play.
I think points will be hard to come by for uga. I see uga scoring nearly identical points in this game- 21 to 31 points. The danger zone being once they cross over 25 points, because I think with Metchie out we could possibly be held to under 30 points.
Bowers is a legitimate mismatch, but I think Bama will have a better plan, or at least at the minimum Branch is looking forward to having a better showing vs him.
We cant play to avoid BY contact in this game. We will have to have some designed QB runs, and BY will have to be more confident and assertive about his run opportunities. If he will play aggressive in the run game I think Bama wins. Bama needs more speed. A few touches for Leary, or at least his presence to help back the safeties up, and make it harder to bracket Jamo would be ideal, but for whatever reason we haven't seen any of that.
3 catches for 30 yards from the slot will not cut it in this game IMO. Maybe the TE's get more involved, or JoJo or Leary get a few shots, but there has to be a few plays up the seam.
Can Trey Sanders or Leary catch a few balls out of the backfield ? Desperately need to make their LB's think twice about being overly aggressive with that A gap blitz of theirs.
Getting their DL running side to side is optimal. Jamo did run a single jet sweep vs Cincinnati.
In the end the same things will win that always win.
