Is there a rational argument for the NCAA going forward?

P5 schools certainly don’t want them and there simply isn’t enough financial support from the lower university divisions to sustain them. Emmert and crew are likely standing in quicksand.

Yes. Without the NCAA there would be no need for conferences at all. The haves of the world: Bama, ND, Texas, TAMU, Auburn, UGA etc would go Indy and make more money. The Missouri’s of the world would go broke and not have a football program within 10 years.

There never has been.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association didn't just form on its own one day. It was formed by member institutions to regulate college sports. Few like the NCAA just like few like their HOA but there has been and will be, more so now, a need for a regulatory board or committee. It may not be the NCAA, but call it what you may, there will be an organization for the member institutions, without which it will fail to work.

The NCAA gave what most fans wanted, or thought they wanted. They wanted a playoff, check. They wanted a 4 team playoff, check. They wanted play for pay, check. They wanted unrestrained movement with impunity, check.
In conclusion, be careful what you ask for. Like a 12 team playoff. A level playing field can't be legislated in college football.

The NCAA is run like an HOA…….they protected their favorites or buddies over the years.

What I didn’t see in your post were:
1. Fairly and consistently regulate, and
2. At a cost to member institutions far less than the $1 B they currently collect from the March Madness tourney

Which are 2 good reasons why the NCAA as we know it will probably cease to exist, but still, a regulatory board of some sort is necessary in whatever type of business, probably especially sport, which is absolutely big business these days. All pro sports leagues have regulatory organizations.
Corruption in any organization, be it unions, hoa boards, congressional boards, is a constant problem that has to be monitored, but without which business would be even more corrupt.
Surely nobody actually believes that a business as big as college sports can carry on without some sort of agreed upon regulations, and in order to have that, there has to be a board or committee to monitor that.

Don't get this angle at all.
What does the NCAA have to with CFB conferences? The NCAA has nothing to do with bowls,CFB playoffs or their TV contracts.

How would they make more money? All of em can't have their own network like ND and all of em still make more money.
Why did UT go independent when they left the Big 12?

The NCAA has nothing to do with CFB playoffs and fought "unrestricted movement" along with NIL tooth and nail in the courts.

Texas didn’t go Indy because they care more about winning a championship than they do about making money. When ND goes to the playoffs they get all of the money. Bama has to split it with the rest of the conference. Indy is harder to make the playoffs though. If ND would’ve been in ACC and won their conference. They would’ve been in over Cincy even with the loss to them.

LMAO! They care about both and the how in the world are the two mutually exclusive?

Good Lord, playoff money is a relative drop in the bucket compared to TV money and Bama still makes money even with their conference splits.

It's been much easier for ND to make the playoffs and BCS.
I mean they're the only Indy left its somewhat of a small sample size.

The fact that Bruce Pearl, Will Wade, and Bill Self are still coaching tells you that the NCAA is not regulating anything. When Pearl and lawyers - and give Auburn credit here - can reduce a sure second show cause for Pearl to a two game suspension, the NCAA is not regulating. It is cowering under the threat of law suits - which it is losing. But well before the FBI stuff, UNC totlly skated what SACS, the accreditation agency, called "the worst academic fraud in the history of college education." SACS did put UNC on probation, but UNC threatened to sue the NCAA, and they caved. The NCAA is useless.

Tell it to Ole Miss. In fact, Auburn just got hit with some sanctions and it's a pretty good bet that LSU will be.
