and the best they could come up with was hand the ball to Henry.

Although, that wasn't a bad option.

At least until the post-season. Coker really shined in the SEC Championship Game as well as the two playoff games.

Hayden Fry's 1983 Iowa coaching staff:

OC: Bill Snyder
OL: Kirk Ferentz
LB: Barry Alvarez
DL: Dan McCarney
GA: Bob Stoops

On the team was future HCs Mike Stoops, Chuck Long, and Jay Norvell

That's insane

Only bad thing about all these elite coaching staffs that Bama has is they end up leaving as HCs fast af. Majority of them are gonna be coaching against Bama now.

When you have Henry, a forward pass is a bad idea except to setup for MORE HENRY!

I doubt any of those assistants ever win a National championship. Sabans coaching tree hasn’t been particularly successful.

Arkansas' Frank Broyles had some serious staffs back in the day, don't think he ever 5 HC on a single staff.

I know it is ancient history but 1965 had 4 future head coaches. Barry Switzer, Johnny Majors, Jim Mackenzie, and Bill Pace.

Switzer and Majors won national championships. Mackenzie might have if not for the plane crash after one year at OU.

Also had Mervin Johnson as an assistant who was on staffs that won NC's at Arkansas, OU, and Notre Dame.

McKenzie died of a heart attack or something. It wasn’t a plane crash. Former OU QB Steve Davis died in a plane crash.

You are correct. Maybe it was Davis I was thinking of.

Depends on your definition of successful. Here are the 2015 assistants’ accomplishments as HCs since 2015:

Smart: 1 SEC Championship, 2 CFP appearances, 2-time SEC Coach of the Year, 4 11+ win seasons, 3 major bowl victories (Rose, Sugar, Peach)

Cristobal: 2 PAC-12 Conference Championships, Rose Bowl win, PAC-12 Coach of the Year

Napier: 2 Sun Belt Conference Championships, 2-time Sun Belt Coach of the Year, 3 10+ win seasons

Kiffin: 2 Conference USA Championships, led Ole Miss to its first 10-win regular season in history, 3 10+ win seasons, 1 major bowl appearance (2022 Sugar)

Tucker: Big 10 Coach of the Year, 1 major bowl appearance (2022 Peach)

I’d deem that pretty successful as a whole, especially considering the short timespan…

They lost to Florida, Arkansas and that’s it right? Didn’t they win 10 that year?

Not sure which year you mean; they’ve won 10 games several times but this season was the first where they won 10 in the regular season…

Yea, but the Rant will tell you GA hasn’t done anything.

You can add Dan Lanning to that list too. He was a GA on that 2015 staff.

Yeah, it’s almost nattie or nothing around here, at least when it comes to football. I think Kirby will get UGA there though…and he still has a chance to do so this year. Regardless, his recruiting savvy will have UGA in the play-off mix most years and he should be around for many years, so I think he’s very likely to win a title or two at UGA…
