So I was driving up West Magnolia the other day going towards the Shell station. On the Right next to New Row the rednecks in that frat put up a huge sign that read "Happy Birthday Robert E Lee." What makes someone want to celebrate the birthday of a man that was a loser and a tratior to the Constitution?

It's a holiday celebrated by the Alabama government. What's the problem?

So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that Slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interest of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this that I would have cheerfully lost all that I have lost by the war, and have suffered all that I have suffered to have this object attained.
quote:
“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races – that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.”
We celebrate the birthdays of both of the men who said the quotes. One was Robert E. Lee, the other was Abraham Lincoln.
I'll let you figure who said what.

Not only is it racist, it is a slap in the face to MLK. We celebrate MLK day as a nation for a reason.

Also,
I'm sure you defend Lincoln and FDR like they're God's gift to democracy, right?

have you never seen this before? I thought it was fairly common place
I also find it funny that up north schools dont always get off for MLK like in the south. Presidents day, yes, MLK, no

Why do we celebrate MLK? He was a criminal that went to jail several times and led thousands to break the law. Not a good role model

Yeah, that's what I meant...blanked for some reason. Anyway, Lee is a key figure in KA's founding, hence why they celebrate his birthday.
