I’m sure I’m beating a dead horse but that targeting ejection rule...

By no means do I think it changed the outcome of the game- LSU was obviously the better team and going to stomp Clemson regardless. Burrow is a badass and Coach O is precious...
But if you’re a casual observer enjoying a great game (yeah insert hog fan joke here, casual observer will always be the case blah blah
), it just takes the air out of the game. Sure, penalize them but that dude didn’t deserve to get tossed. It’s not even a ref thing because it was probably an accurate call going by the rule, but the rule itself sucks and is ridiculous.

Agreed. Somehow they have to work INTENT into the rule. A kid getting kicked out of a championship game is a travesty. Particularly when he would have had to be able to defy the laws of gravity to avoid it.

I addressed the accuracy of the call given the rule, doesn’t change the fact that the rule sucks.

I feel that the call needs to be there to protect the player but should be split into two different calls. One for malicious contact with intent where the rule remains as is and one for inadvertent contact with a 15 yard personal foul and no ejection.

They can put up a billboard if they want. Nobody is stopping them

Agreed, that would be so so so much better.

Too me it is a BS call. I understand the rule but there was no ill intent and it is a contact sport after all. I also believe LSU got hosed on the PI that was called on Fulton's pick. So to be both teams had a rough call and no way did that change the game.
I did lol a little watching Clyde's fingers touch out of bounds however

I could not disagree more. That was the second time he lowered his head and led with the crown of his helmet. The first time was into Burrow on the TD pass to Moss right before the half. It was intentional both times. He keeps playing like that, he will break his own neck one day. Textbook examples of targeting and he needed to go.

You have to realize that this rule is to protect both players. If the defensive player keeps lowering his head and using the crown as a bludgeon then he risks serious Permanent damage. Have you ever seen any of those old players who can’t walk and shake and tremble?

The shitty part is that he is now also out for the first half of their season opener.

He keeps his head up no issue. He’s been taught since birth, see what you hit.

That rule is bullshite and it is ruining football.

Irony is if there is no targeting involved..........LSU would be playing OSU not Clemson. Clemson probably won against OSU because of that momentum changing targeting call against Lawrence.

Don't care. Last night's officiating was awesome.
Clemson deserved everything they got.

It’s a rule provided for safety for both players involved, players should be learning to change the way they tackle.
He led with the crown of helmet on multiple tackles, the hit at the end of the half on Burrow as well. Not targeting because he hit burrow’s arm but dude needs to improve his tackling technique...

I agree with what you’re saying in principle , but how exactly is a referee supposed to determine intent? And is that something we want them determining?
Officiating is hard enough with the speed of today’s game. The last thing we need is to muddy the water by putting that burden on officials.

Forget the LSU wr, That kid needs to learn how to keep his head up for his own good. He did the same thing on the burrow hit. He’s a great player but that’s very dangerous to himself.
